I have to give thanks to Waynesreef for organizing the mini order from ClamsDirect.

Here is a shot of my other new prize

Group shot of all my clams. I now have 5 deresa, squamosa and 3 croceas

Soon the lights will be upgraded. I moved the small crocea off the rock it was attached to. A huge bristle was constantly attacking it from underneath and would cause the clam to excrete all kind of extra muscus.

All 5 are on the substrate for now until I figure out a way to elevate them off the substrate as well. When I pick them up sometime to upright them, there are bristle worms underneath the shells too![-banghead]

The clams are all together right now until I rearrange the rockwork.

I just can't win the battle of the worms [-ashamed][-censored]

I bought a neon dottyback upon the recommendation of a store clerk from TanksALot. I don't think the fish has done ANYTHING as far as eradication of the worms.

I see the worms in plain view during the day. The fish swims by and doesn't even notice.

My next step might be a bristle worm trap.

Hey Wayne and Sunny, Nice pics and great looking clams! Sorry I don't have a digi camera to take pics of my clam from that deal. It is doing very well and is incredibly beautiful! Thanks again Wayne for organizing the order.

Both clams are 4"+ in size. For keeping clams MH is preferred however I know quite amount of reefers keep them in both PC and VHO. Under VHO and PC clams such as maxima and crocea need be placed high in the rock works in order to get enough light. My setup consists of 2x175w 10K MH, 4x55w blue PC and 1x96w daylight PC.

For the bristle worms- Coral banded shrimp are supposed to really go after them. I did not know dottybacks were known for their worm attacks.

what about building a plexi-glass box and set the clams in (knda like a shallow shoe box) that so they are protected from the worms until you get a grip on them. At least then you could see if there were worms attacking them and easily remove them.

For lighting, I have a 75 gallon tank with 4 x 65 power compact (2 actinic/ 2 daylight) and 2 x 40 normal output 50/50 bulbs for a total of 340 watts.

I've had very good luck with clams growing in this amount of light. Here is a deresa I bought on 11/11/03. You can see all the new white shell growth in just over 2 month's time

I am having similiar results with the squamosa. The small crocea is not growing as quickly, but I can see new shell growth when its mantle is retracted. And the last two croceas are still fairly new to my system.

I did have all 3 original clams high up on the rocks. When they started to get attacked by the bristle worms, I brought them down to substrate level. That's been almost a month now. So far, so good.

I don't do anything special with my tank. My parameters were all over the place as my tank was just over a month old. I still bought my first clam, the deresa. Back then, I didn't even have the extra 80 watts of normal output, just the power compacts.

While this has worked for me, I can't say definitively if it would work in your situation. All you can do is try [)]

Tried a small maxima from Fish Doctors that died within 3 days. They told me it might have been going downhill before I bought it and it just ended up dying in my tank.

That really bummed me out because that was the first thing to ever die in my tank. [(]

Do you all think I got enough light in mny tank for some clams? I got a 30 gal w/ 2 65 watt 50/50 pc's, and 1 30 watt 36" atinic. 160 watts for 30 gal. If enough, what kind will trive and what will just survive?

Well, it's very debatable. If you try, I'd attempt a squmosa, which has lower light requirements. And you'll need to place him up in the rockwork instead of low in the sand.
