I just got a great deal on a TWIN 250watt HQI, 2x55watt pc, and 2x36watt pc pendent. It also has dual temp controled 4" fans.

I'm excited to no longer be restricted to lower light corals in my 20 gallon because of only having 110 watts of PC over it!

The strip will be mounted over my 55 gallon by JUNE. I have to thin the ranks of aquariums from 11 to about 3 because of power and plug reasons. Im thinking that I will have more things plugged in on the 55 than on 4 freshies.[-bigeyes] LOL

I look forward to a clam group purchase by the fall if all goes to plan.

Twin 250W HQI on a 55g is crazy bright. I would think that a single light is more than enough.

he needs 4 feet of light spread, therefore 2 is neccessary. you will be glad you got the hqi's. i used to have 110 watts of pc over my 20 gallon as well. now i have 150 hqi and 150 watts of vho over it.

I wish I had the money to put that lighting over my 20 gallon.. but the 48" model seemed so much more...reasonable... I guess... Im sure most of the stuff in my room will migrate to the big tank once it gets goin.

I'm pondering setting up on of my 80 gallons instead....that would give me more fish room.

I'm sure it wont be too much, Its gonna be 6+inches off the water. Like Mhltcob said, I have to light four feet of tank and one bulb wouldn't give me enough intensity spread for the ends. I'm more worried about heat than too much light. I've been told that the HQIs burn a little cooler than the standard bulbs. I think it will look amazing in a few years.

Don't sweat the heat too much. They're hot, but so is every other light bulb out there. They're much cooler than comparable standard metal halides. I'd say they're more like VHO's.

I purchased it from Pet Supply Liquidator. I've heard some good things about them on RC. I asked if there was anything they could "do" for me if i upgraded to the 250watt HQIs and they cut $75 off the price.

I think its funny when manufacturers are willing to cut the prices some when you order their top of the line.

Just got my system... besides a few minor fixes from shipping... What an amazing system. The HQI's are tiny.... much smaller than I anticipated... but damn are they bright! I hope to have the 90 set up soon... but first I have to sell off 6 tanks of cichlids...
