Please note that the following is my opinion only...

I used to go to the Pet Station for freshwater fish. I visited them just yesterday and to my great dismay, they had corals in tanks with NO lights on. Their coral prices are, by far, the worst I've seen around the entire metro area (I've been to quite a few stores now).

Their saltwater tanks were pathetic and very sorry looking. I saw very few fish that were actively swimming, most were just trying to hide, even ones that you would see normally swimming about.

Pet Station is one place to avoid, unless you are looking for freshwater fish.

I went there a few time a couple years back and thought they were ok, but apparently they have changed a good deal since then. They used to have vats with MHs and reasonable fish systems. Their prices were a little high, but that is no surprise.

YEs I agree I use to drive past Pet-Station and stop in there hoping they hired someone with more sence in this hobbie but I gave up when the last time I went there 95% of there corals were dead. Now on the other hand I do stop but the Pet-Station in Jackson and there tanks are very clean and heathly looking corals most of the time.

I tried to stop in to the Pet Station in Dearborn and was repulsed by the smell the moment I walked through the door. After about 5 minutes I just couldn't take the smell and completely dank appearance of the place and left. I will not return.

Is the Pet Station in Jackson by the same owner?

I was so depressed when I saw they had puppies for sale. There was no water in their bowls, but they were trying to lick the bowl as they were OBVIOUSLY thirsty. How inhumane. Makes me sick! [-censored]

I'm a Jaxonian and the pet station here stocks quite alot of wonderful things, the best time to come is late Friday when they get their shipments in. I've seen many corals sell right off the truck. The two stores are under the same ownership Dea is the owner/wife of the jackson store. Her husband owns dearborn. She did say that by far her store is the better, her husband has a second job. Another classic example of us guys having a "better half."

We stopped in there last night to look around since we were in the area. Your right on the coral tanks! They looked like a hurricane devastaed them. It was a mess and many corals were dead or almost dead. They had a shark in a tank that wasn't much bigger then the shark. It made me sick to see that and the mess that the tanks were in. I agree with you Sunny, I won't be going back in there until I hear different!

Agreed... my eye doctor used to be right next door, so I would stop by only for morbid curiosity. Like watching a train wreck.

When I was a newbie they gave me "advice" that nearly drove me from the hobby after 90 days. I was fortunate and didn't give up; found other resources and had better success with the subsequent effort.

There used to be one guy there who was halfway knowledgable, but I think he's long gone. Everyone else there is clueless.

pjr,
the same thing with us! I listened to the owner and bought PC's to keep clams under. I showed him the Maxima and said "I can keep these under the PC's"? They sit and collect dust on my Q tank now. Within the first year we had to exchange them twice because the one side of the ballast went out. The same problem exists now, only one side works. $400.00 down the drain! Taught me an expensive lesson.

ok, time for my 2 cents worth. Pet station in Dearborn is crap..Sorry for sounding so harsh...but it is! Noqw the sister store in Jackson? MUCH BETTER!! No Stonies, but they will get them if you want em,and for a good price! If ya go to the Jackson store try to go on a Sat. afternoon, ask for HArold, he's a good guy and won't steer ya the wrong direction.

i agree w/ skylergirl about the fresh water selections, but last time i was there i wasnt into the saltwater tanks so i didnt really notice the quality. i barely looked at the salt tanks. I am only writing on here just to say that pet stations book prices are high, their lighting prices are high, their pumps, heaters, parts, foods are all expensive. i go there just to see their in-stock freshwater fish but i dont buy anything there because the fish prices are high & under normal health 20% of the time. I wont buy livestock from a store that even has one dead fish in its tanks because that means someone isnt doing their job & it makes me wonder what else they are overlooking... i'll go back there but not anytime soon. not to purchase just to have a peek at what they have.
