It was on my way home yesterday, so i figured i drop in and take a look. For a small store i was impressed. Every tank i looked in, everything looked healthy, and clean too. Prices were reasonable. They had a nice selection for the number of tanks they had to work with, and powder blue tangs, with no ich.... definity shows they know what their doing. lol

Pet Provisions in Hartland isn't too far from White Lake. South East corner of M-59 and Old 23. Selection on fish can be a bit spotty. I have seen some very nice live rock in there on occasion. My tank is FOWLR still so I'm not sure how good there coral selection is. The tank is always clean and stocked pretty well though. They also have stores in Brighton and Howell.

Pet supplier is a bad experience!!!!! At least, that was my experience. I went in there about 7 months ago, I had african cichlids at the time. I talked to a guy, I think Chris is his name, and he seemed very helpful. I ended up trading in all my cichlids, for practically nothing, and he helped me with my first saltwater tank. First of all, he convinced me a seaclone would be fine for my 75 gallon(ya right) so I bought it, everything he sold me, was a waste. I wasted so much money. I ended up with all kinds of problems, and ended up spending way more to buy the right things. Then I went there one day, and there was this horrible woman there, standing in the back of the store next to the SW fish, about 6 feet from a parrot smoking a cigarette. The whole store smelled like cigarettes I was disgusted. Then I asked her if she could help me with the SW fish, she snapped at me and said, "I don't do SW, I don't know anything" Mind you, I had my 2 children with me, and my 3 1/2 year old asks me why the lady is being mean to me. Anyway, finally a younger man comes in and I asked him about some shrimp, he bags me up 2 coral banded shrimp, in the same bag. I pay for them and leave. By the time I got hom(about 3 minutes later) one shrimp was dead with all it's arms pulled off from the other one. So, fortunately my husband was home, so I left my youngest home and took my 3 1/2 year old back with me. I walked in with the bag not even opened yet and asked for new shrimp. He bagged me up another shrimp and when I got home, I took the bag out of the brown bag and the shrimp was on it's back dead. I was so angry, and that lady was so mean to me and I didn't want to go back, but I wanted my money back. So, I left both kids at home, got to the store and literally in an angelic (but overly angelic voice, so she new I was being sarcastic) I said well, another dead shrimp. I said I'd like a full refund. Then she snapped at me some more, but this time I had another customer standing behind me. She was going on and on how she doesn't know anything about SW fish and I should have just come back a different day when someone else was there. I couldn't believe my ears, I had been nothing but nice. So, knowing the guy behind was standing close, and listening, I said again in my sarcastic angelic voice "Why are you being so mean to me?" I asked her 3 times and she kept ignoring me, then she was getting so nervous from me asking her that she kept screwing up my credit(it was on a credit card) she credit me half of what I paid, I said, why are you only crediting me half, she snapped"what are you talking about" and I showed her my receipts, she said "Oh" and then her hands were trembling and her face turned red, and I sweetly asked her again, "why are you being so mean to me, what did I do?" And she whispered "I'm sorry" I got my credit and never went back. Now, for those of you who go to this store, I want to make it very clear I'm not talking about the older woman with a limp, she is very sweet and nice. This woman is about 45 years old, short hair and smokes and has a deep voice. Also, there were always a lot of dead fish when I went in.

Anyway, sorry so long, but I just couldn't believe what happened. Then I found reef central and I fixed everything and bought all new stuff and my tank is really wonderful. I shop at Moby Dicks in Clarkston now all the time, and I occassionally order from Petsolutions.com.

I hope you all have better luck than I did at this store.

I'm surprised to here that. I wouldn't say that I go there alot but I have not had any experience like that. Usually when I go it's early on Saturday so maybe she's not there. I usually deal with a guy who I believe is the owner. He has been pretty helpful and taken time to talk and answer questions. I would not go to any LFS and have them recommend a setup for a new tank. They will just try to sell what they have there in stock whether it will work or not. Research, Research, Research.

Ya, I know that now. But how was I supposed to know then? He had me convinced it was Easy to set up a SW tank. Like I said, it wasn't long after that that i found Reef Central and I took control of my tank and started doing things the right way. I didn't have a problem with any of the other employees, the rest were nice. But, how can you run a business leaving people in charge of your store that don't know anything about what they are selling? Anyway, their selection is so tiny anyway, it's just not worth going there. Also, I left 4 or 5 messages for the owner or a manager to call me back, no one did.
Honestly, I feel bad for the animals in that tiny store having to breathe all that cigarette smoke.

Hmm i never really talked to the guy except asking a price, so i really didnt know if they were that knowledgeable or not. Im glad though that i have got past the basic's so i can walk and fish store and know what im talking about... most of time lol. I hated it back in the day, when i would look but i really had no idea what i was looking at. The only thing i knew about it was it looked sweet.

I bought my kole, hogfish, snails, trigger, well most of my live stock from them. And never a problem, I still have all my fish today.
I think I know which lady you are talking about though and she knows nothing on SW.
I used to go to Moby Dicks and I do agree that Chad is knowledgeable but if he's not there your SOL.

I stopped in today at the Pet Supplier and I was not impressed at all the reef tanks were all covered with hair algae and the lighting was standard wattage fluorescents. Pet provisions in Brighton and Highland have far better stock. The fish looked fin but anemones with 40w bulbs don't last. The staff appeared knowledgeable but I would not say the prices were good. I would say they are average, prices for coral were high considering the quality.

I was in Pet supplier last week and seen the Hair algae, they said they were not going to order corals until it is taken care of. They do have MH on the one tanks but cut them because of the algae.
I was also in the pet provisions in hartland last week and they did not have much but I have not been to the one in Howell in a while and hardly ever go to the one in brighton.
Pet Provisions in Harland had the large tanks ripped apart & empty last week, are they set up again yet?
