 I went downstairs to check the tanks and my roomies 5 in spiney puff was stuck to the powerhead!!! There was some food caught in it that he wanted to eat and the pwrhd ate him instead:mad: Now the poor guy has a bloody and swollen beak and a perfect swollen circle on his chin:( He's missing most of his chin spines too. NOTE TO ALL: use the guards on your powerheads they are a danger to all fish. They've been using stress coat and I gave them some melafix but I just wondered if there was anything else they can use to help heal him.

Same thing happened to me a couple of years ago. It got stuck to it by it's eye. He lived for about a month with a big swollen eye that he couldn't see out of, but eventually he passed away. I hope you have better luck. I did buy guards the next day and haven't had problems since.

Lost my Yellow watchman the same way. Thats why I think many are going to closed loop systems and removing powerheads from the display. Hope he makes it

I use bioballs stuck to the PH when it's on. I don't know why the bigger PHs don't come with guards, but the bioballs work good.

I now have a closed-loop system with a SCWD inline, and I haven't lost a fish yet! (A few shrimps made it into the fuge via the overflow box....) I lost 4 baby ocillaris clowns to my PHs before I guarded, then got rid of them entirely. Never again....

My puffer did that the first day I got him. I turned the ph off. It puffed up, and then had a collapsed cloudy eye, and the spikes on his head were bent. His little mouth had a big red cut on it. After about 1-2 weeks he was fine. Eye was normal and everything was ok.

THanks,

Leopard

Same thing happened to me once with a porcupine puffer. It got sucked up on its side. For how long I don't know... found him in the morning. I shut the ph off and had to hand feed him for a while, but the swelling eventually went down and his skin healed. Two years later he died, maybe coincidental? Hope yours pulls through as well.

I lost a Kole Tang that way myself. I was so heart broken I tore down the tank... I feel your pain man.

I'd pull him out of the show tank and put him in quarentine for a couple weeks. use copper in the quarintine water. that will keep him from getting any pathogens. a sick or injured fish should always be removed from the show tank lest it infect the rest of the tank.

I'm sad to say that the puff died this morning. We tried the whole
Melafix/Stress Coat solution, even a few others reccommended by
our LFS but nothing helped:(
