Yes I can bleach corals with the best of em!

The question I have is, I trimmed back some maidens hair and it was covering the base of a Stag horn (at least that is what I think it is, be kind if I am wrong) and bleached the bottom half, can that come back or is it permanently damaged?

Not bleaching. Looks to me like the tissue is gone also. By this point I have never had any luck with frags that are under going tissue necrosis (slow or fast) besides re-fragging it and hoping for the best. Everyone I have left as it was ended up dead.

As a side note, look up the thread someone posted about using epoxy on frags instead of super glue. It was interesting.

IME you need to frag it now. Cut it off well above the necrotic area and hope for the best. I get about 50% survival rate at best doing this, 0% if I don't.

I have had a few monti digitas (over the last couple years) loose tissue at the base (guessing now due to the epoxy usage)

but I have had only 1 survive.. and it still isnt doing very well (nearly 7 months old now)

Thanks guys! Looks like I will be re-fragging it. Mike, I followed the epoxy thread, I have never had a problem with Epoxy (I use Aqua-mend from Home Depot) but since I have found better gel superglue (I had a epiphany, from my once model plane hobby) and I also use accelerant now (speeds up the curing process 10 fold and does not hurt the coral or tank) that pretty much I will be superglueing all of my corals, I still like epoxy for rock to rock connection. I am glad I posted this you guys may have saved me a coral, thanks again!

I agree-it needs to be fragged to save any of it. For future reference-dont let algea, coral, anemone, ANYTHING come into contact with SPS corals. Even other SPS corals too near or touching will cause problems.

Thanks Deb and yes I know not to let other things touch other things which can touch other things and so on and so. There are just times I don't think it all the way through, like the oxypora I let nudge the bubble gum echino (you will see it in this pic) I knew oxypora has one of the STRONGEST sting of all corals but still I let it just barley touched and BAM I lost 20% of my echino. My tank is getting too little for my eyes if ya know what I mean. Here is the new smaller A. Stag horn:

Good luck, I hope it makes it. I've usually had pretty good success as long as I fragged it a decent amount above the suspect area.
