Are there any gadgets on the market that allow sand to be vacuumed without siphoning water from the tank? I don't want to do a water change . . . I just want to clean up waste on bottom of tank.

If you have stuff on the top of your sandbed I think your best bet would be to increase water flow across the sand and maybe get a better cleaner crew. There shouldn't be anything sitting on top, and if you don't then the sand is fine without vacuuming. I don't know of anything that could be used to vacuum sand, anything would suck up the sand too unless you have crushed coral for a bed.

You could also try a sandsifter goby, they're neat to watch and move the sand around so that may help.

Some reefer use a canister filter inline back into the tank...Cleans the water on the way...But, I agree...More flow & more things that stir up the Substrate.

What do sandsifting gobies need to survive? Food types? Or do they live only on what they find in the sand Certain kinds better than others?
