I was at my local Home Depot tonight looking for some southdown. They did not have that but they had a diferent kind of play sand called "leisure landscape". It was in a clear bag with blue and yellow writing. It said nothing about tropical snad or anything like that. Has anybody heard of this stuff? Will I be safe with this stuff? Anybody have any idea where I can find some southdown or something similiar?

Well I am now going crazy. I have called 12 home depots in my area. I live in warren. Each place I called has never even heard of it. I am starting to feel like I am chasing a sand ghost. Anybody know where they have some?

Any kids play sand is safe to use. Even silica sand. Unless you have an acidic PH of 7.0 or less, the sand is not going to dissolve in your tank and bleech silicates into your tank. At least, not any noticable rate. But, southdown has the nice white look to it, which makes it attractive. Just make sure it is some kind of play sand so you know it is well screen and there are no nails or anything in it.

BTW, this is from Shimek and many other very experienced hobbiest and researchers that frequent other boards.
