I have an Aqua Medic solenoid that was used on my CO2 system and was wondering if you could hook water lines up to it instead of CO2. Would like to used it with a top off system. Instead of plugging a pump into the top off to feed from a water container, plug the solenoid in to control water from RO/DI unit, and eliminate the need for a water storage container. What do you think?

While this would work, I wouldn't recommend it.

There's always the risk of the float valve / water level sensor failing...when the RO unit is directly connected to the sump like that, any such failure could lead to a rapid decrease in salinity and a possible flood if you don't have an emergency drain in place.

A seperate storage reservoir doesn't necessary eliminate the possibility of a flood, but it does limit the damage a float switch failure can do.
