While looking at my tank tonight i noticed that there is a white branch looking plant or coral growing out of my live rock? i dnt have a pic yet but if anyone has even the slightest idea b4 i get the pic up it would help.

Without a pic I can't be sure but... it's probably a sponge. Is it flexible? kind of a free-form shape? in a shadowy area?

But, was it similar? Sponges tend to come and go... the grow, then seem to dwindle and disappear... they are a good thing though:)

My guess is a type of foraminifera (aka foram). They're a group of protists that have a "shell" with holes in it. They reach their pseudopods (arms) out of the holes to capture detritus. They are harmless. Think of them as amoebas with shells.

There are several types in my tank. pinkish/purple ones that look a lot like coralline and white ones that are taller and more branched.

A photo would help.
