Yes, you can use peroxide.. It works best actually on hair algea.. I used to use it a lot, but you have to be careful.. But I thought you and I had talked about that at one point Rich.. And to add to that, if you do use peroxide, you can get higher strength peroxide at the hydroponic stores.. I cannot exactly remember the percentage, but I think it's like 30.. And it's better to, instead of dosing the tank, do individual rocks.. And it works faster, if you can do the dip..
And same with the carbon dosing.. Very easy to use and control nitrate.. And a lot of the problem nowadays with carbon dosing is that it is so effective, that it pulls all of the nitrate, leaving excess phosphate(the ratio). A lot of people are now dosing and adding potassium nitrate, to get their systems to 1 to 3ppm of nitrate, and then, the bacteria are able to consume more of your phosphate(phosphorus), and consequently, you obtain more color. But this is only to be done when you continuously have zero nitrate..
Brewers yeast.. And this is one I obtained from vivid aquariums.. You can use that to control and eliminate diatom algea.. I don't know what did it, but it works.. I was doubtful until I tried it..
There are tons of little things and I cannot remember them all..
I recently began using muratic acid to clean pumps and equipment.. It takes good ventilation, but works very well and quickly..
