I think im just going to skip getting the nudibranchs, because every single person replied with saying they died. So im think i will try some turbos instead. Have you guys had a least some success with these guys, like a noticable amount of hair algae that is gone after you have placed them in there? Any other suggestions on critters, or techniques? Thanks everyone for the replies on the nudi's you saved me the trouble of dropping some money down the drain.

I have had some success with the turbos. The biggest factor though is how long the hair algae is. If it is too long they won't even touch it. When you go to put the turbos in it may help to try and scrub the rocks a little or to use a turkey baster to suck some of it up. That way when you put them in they can just finish off the job. Also from that point on if you keep a nice cleanup crew in there it can help to stop the problem from returning.

^ what he said.

Depending on the length of algae snails may or may not touch it. Thats why i like to mix it up and have some scarlet crabs and sally lightfoots in there to mow down the longer threads and then the snails can take care of the smaller stuff. Sea urchins have a big appetite too for algae.

but dont urchins eat corralline? For the snails..... Usually when i siphon i suck it all the long stuff off, so i may do that, right before i put them in. Dont they eat, about the equivalence to their body size each day, does that sound right i though i heard it somewhere.

I bought some stuff from Oceans and Seas call Marine S.A.T. It is non-chemical, 100% live bacterial. I used it and in a couple weeks it did make a big difference. Didn't get rid of it all, but I used a Turkey Baster to take some of it out, my snails finished the rest off. Give it a try, it isn't expensive at all. Good luck )

Im not sure exactly what filefish species your talking about, we're probably call it a different name. But the only filefish that doesnt bother inverts is the orange spotted. The rest of the species would harm snails. Filefishs are the close relative to a trigger, which makes them even less trustworthy.

My recipe for success with hair algae was as follows 6 turbos 10 hermits Ro/Di water for all changes and top offs. Reduce my feeding to once or twice a week. Rowa phos in the sump. Protien skimmer in the sump. Started this on 12-14-03 and today all algae is gone and in check. Thanks to Steve a pruess for this recipe it works well. I had hair algae at least 3 inches long before I started. See ya on the bottom.

P.S. During this process at my water changes I would take LR out a piece at a time submerge it in water that was drawn from tank and scrub it with a tooth brush to remove as much algae as possible from it. Hope this helps. See ya on the bottom

Well, before i was doing water changes every two weeks or a month because i was getting lazy. But for the last 2 months i have been keeping up on the 10% a week, i run my skimmer mostly all the time now, and i currently use r/o water.
