Hi all,

First I'd like to say thanks for all the info that has been scattered throughout these forums. I guess I picked a good time to get back into the hobby. Just looking for some recomendations. I am looking to setup a 55 gal that I have. From what I've read I am going to go the LSB route. Was wondering how much "live" sand I would need to "seed" the LSB and a good source.

Thanks in advance,

Rob

Hello Rjmelvin, and welcome aboard. For a 55 gallon, I'd seed the bed with about three to five pounds of live sand. I personally picked mine up at Tropicorium on Inkster. The sand comes right out of their vats and is loaded with live stuff. Its a fun place to visit too, but the prices are pretty high. If you can get it out of an already established tank that would work well also. Just don't buy the stuff that comes in a bag from your LFS! Seeya around the website!

Another place I have gotten some good sand bed seeding stuff is at the LFS. I use to get some of the crud off the bottom of their rock curing vates.

i got all of mine from a fellow reefer. he just scooped some out for me into a bucket. He refilled what he gave me with some new sand from my tank.
