I got my new tank up and running tonight. Looks okay. Problem is it sounds like Niagra falls in my dining room. I don't have a good place to keep the pumps etc. They are under the stand now. I was thinking of putting some sort of sound blocking material on the inside of the stand. Something like what is under the carpet in cars. Or maybe even foam would do the trick. Anyone out there ever have to do something about this. It is pretty loud around here now. My girlfriend may do something awful If I don't act soon.[}}-|>>]

Is the sound from the running water or the pumps? Looking at your picture from your other post, your 2 inlets dump onto drip plates and then drip into standing water, yes? Is so, replace the mesh grate that held up your bio balls and cover it with some 100 micron floss. This will eliminate the drip and filter some nasties out of your water. The only drawback is that you will need to clean the floss every couple of days or you will get restricted flow and nitrates. (This is exactly what I did on my tank and it is whisper quiet.)[-thumbu]

Thanks. I have the floss in the garage. I was afraid of nitrates. I guess I will just have to clean it often. Most of the noise if from the running water.

If you don't want to do the floss think, you can glue in a plexiglass ramp beneath the drip plates, angled down into the standing water below. This eliminates the floss cleaning and doesn't allow the water to drip into itself and make noise. I am very close to tying this myself as I am getting tired of washing floss every weekend. Now that I am thinking about it, remove the drip plates and extend the piping down into the water. That way you will have no sound. Good luck.

Be careful if you raise your internal water levl (I tried). When the power goes out and your tank dumps in another 10+g, you don't want to be all wet. Will C is correct. If you put the bio balls back in, the noise will go away as well. I assumed you have the balls out.
