Just got back from my shop, decided today was the day to get on these little buggers.

Against my better judgement, I pulled out the infected cap, thanks to Tszetela, I have some oomed, I filled up a five gallon bucket and put like 6ml of this stuff in there, then put the cap in there also. I also used a turkey baster to blast the coral real well, and then used a toothbrush to scrub the whole thing, figured at this point can't hurt.

Now the reason I am telling you all this is due to the fact that I had seen one today and the damage seemed to be getting better, that was before the dip, at this point I put the cap back into the tank and hoped for the best. I decided to get rid of any infected area and while working on these frags in the bucket I started seeing dead bodies, these little sob's are serious, at final count in the bucket, I had 50 dead ones and probably 50 to 100 egg masses.

Hopefully everyone will learn from my bad experience, these are not to be taken lightly, I could not believe that there were that many of them, at this point, I think I may have made a dent in them, and now that the cap is broke free I will be dipping again in a few days.

Please take my warning, always dip any new anything, do as Mucho says,.........................freshwater dip ..............................

Just out of curiosity though, you said you bought the frag from someone else. If the coral was infected, wouldn't their tank be infected also and they would be experiencing the die-off as well?

I think it would be extremely wrong if I knew I had bad bugs in my tank, but I sell you a coral anyway.

Did you email the person to ask them about it? Seems like just about anyone else could be going through the same thing you are if they bought frags from that particular person :(

Cmpenny, as far as the sps go, I would just use the seachem reef dip, what I am talking about are the monti cap nudis.

Sunny,

I am not sure as to where they came from, all I know is that I started seeing these after I put that denae in my tank, in my rush to re warm- it, I did not dip it at all.

You have to remember, anything you buy could have some hitchhiker on it, that is why mucho strives so hard to pass on his dip everything motto,I am sure someone would not intentionally send someone a frag with a nudi on it, but believe me when I say this, they are tiny, there is no way i would have guessed that there may be more than a couple on my cap, but 50 no way.
In our rush to build our reefs, we sometimes get too excited and skip a step, but this is what can happen, that is why some of the hard core spsr's use seperste qt tanks for 3-4 months on everything.

Imagine what could of happened if I could not break this cap out.
All my montis could have been dead in less than a month or so...........
