I had some business in Auburn Hills yesterday so I decide to stop by Aqua Nest since they had a pretty awesome set up. I discovered that new owners had bought the place and it was almost empty. What happened? Was there a huge sale since everything was gone? Anyone know the low down?

Sorry about this.. I hit the wrong button. The link above is to another thread regarding the new store. I don't know when Aqua Nest closed down but the new store has been getting ready of a couple of months now.

I don't remember that thread. Oh well, the store is open but it is pretty bare in terms of salt. The fresh water room is up as well as the reptile room. The owner said the salt tanks are due this week and he should be stocked in a month or so. If anyone is nearby go donate to the cause, I think he needs it.

They only advertise the sale to the members through a flyer they sent out in the mail. They pretty much sold everything displays included. Oh, the did put some signs in the windows stating that they were closing.

Supposedly the person who is opening the new store (Aqua Exotics)used to work out of Aqutic Discoveries he ran the tank cleaning part. This is what I heard. Don't know how true.

It was very odd when Aquanest closed. The owner had personal reasons for wanting to be out of the store.

I looked at buying the place, but we had trouble agreeing on the value. I thought we were still talking and then a few weeks later the place was closed and the letter went out to current customers.

Very odd

Yeah, when the letter went out to all of the fish club members, the owner (name witheld) stated that he had purchased a Pet Supplies Plus Franchise in Redford and that after having run that for a few months, it was obvious to him that Aqua Nest was no longer a profitable venture and thus he was closing the doors. I do believe that were a couple of other reasons that he cited that I won't go into here, but profit and location to his house were his two main resons. It was very sudden.

I actually used to work with the new owners part time at Auqatic Dis. They are both good guys. I stopped in there yesterday and they are open, but only have a few things. From the plans they told me with the salt water room it looks awsome. The store layout is about 100% better than Aquanests. Calvin told me they expect to be at full operation in about a month.
