Where did everyone go from this forum? Years ago when I was in the hobby this was the place to go if you were in Michigan and now it is completely dead. Did everyone in Michigan get out of reefing?
Good info on the FB page, wouldn't have thought to look there. Unfortunately, FB has essentially killed a few forums that I'm on. IMO, theres just no substitute for the message board style, but apparently I'm in the minority.
Don't use FB at all.
Used to use this one, but a few months ago the system started having bad links and broke for me. looks like they're starting to repair them though (bout **** time).
Most of my online reef time is spent on reef2reef.com
I think Michigan reefers are still around but just not on this site. I posted a few years ago about the format of this forum and how tedious it was. I got ripped for it by the regulars but I still stand by it. There are too many forums for the amount of traffic and so if you have to post in anything besides "general" or maybe the first 2-3 forums it is likely your question will just fall into the abyss. It only makes sense to have this many different topic forums on a huge site like Reef Central or Reef to Reef, where the amount of traffic necessitates the need for more organization.
I don't know if it's a refusal to change with the times or maybe something more personal - like no one wants to be the one to tell some people they are no longer needed as admins because their forums aren't needed - but whatever it is, I believe completely that it drove traffic away from here and toward users only using those larger sites. I use NanoReef now almost exclusively. I try to post a question on here every once in a while but it usually doesn't get any responses. ~shrug~
Technology happened. I used to be on email distribution lists back in the mid-90's before there really was a world wide web. But you don't see those anymore either. Personally I like the web forum format but the majority of people have transitioned away.
probably died from all of the spam on this site. members have attempted to create other sites to replace this one but they have gained little steam. I'm suppporting of a move to a site that is not owned by a company that serves advertisements, and to one that is owned by reefers who will manage the site in an appropriate way.
they are in the works you just have to look for them
