I started out with Damsels and clownfish, till I got the hang of maintaining my first saltwater tank.

I really had fun with groups of Domino Damsels. Once I got the hang of things, and good lighting, I decided to try my first Anemone, a condylactus, and got lucky to get 1 Domino to host it.

Looking back, was kinda cool....

I think most people start with damsels or clownfish. I'm still new at this and I started with 4 damsels. Unfortunately I lost one damsel because two other bullied them. I bought 2 blue devil, one domino and one three stripped damsels. I have had the tank for little over a month now and I have removed the damsels. I'm planning on getting 2 clown fishes and see how that goes. I have a list of fishes I would like to keep eventually but I'm going to try to learn with the clown fishes first.

Let the tank cycle fishless--you can use bacteria and ammonia, or some people use a little piece of shrimp instead of ammonia. Starting out with a clown pair is fun, they are great first fish, colorful and hardy. Waiting for the tank to cycle is not fun, but be patient with it. Have a great time!
