I added some yellow polyps to my tank a week or two ago and i've noticed they are disappering. So I checked it out last night and seen my peppermint shirmp hanging around them. Has anyone had any problems with peppermint shrimp eating polyps? I havent seen him actually picking at them but if thats the case then the peppermint is up for adoption. Any takers?

Hello Tikki50. I have a half dozen peppermint shrimp in my 50 gallon, and a nice baseball sized clump of yellow polyps. I've never had any problems with the peppermints doing anything they shouldn't.

ok I guess I won't get worried, I just hate when those cheap animals like a peppermint take out something more expensive.

I do recall my anemone eating one of my file fish one time. Nice 40 dollar snack for a 7 dollar invert. I HATE when that happens.

Thanks once again and i'll keep you posted.

Just a thought the pet shop may have sold you a camel shrimp instead of pepermint shrimp if they are not that knowledgeable. These guys looks pretty identical. But the camels are not reef safe. They are known to tear up polyps. Peperments are usually reef safe though. Heres a link on skylergirls site with a pic of one. Its the one on the bottom of the site.

also check to see if you have any cyano growing on the individual polyps. i had a nice colony that i lost quite a few of the polyps before i noticed the cyano. it almost chokes them out. i've had many a peppermint, and have never seen one go after yellow polyps. anything is possible though.

nope not cyno on them at all. They were a bit close to the anenome I have and some of its tenticles might have touched the polyps. I guess that might have cuased it. Anyways, they seems to be doing much better now I have increased their feedings and they are growing several new stacks in only a few days, fun.

Thanks for the tip.
