Setting up my new pod. Been out of the saltwater game since I was a kid (15 years or so), so I have what is likely a silly question.

Got my live rock last night and got it all set-up in my tank. I got 24# to go in my 24G pod. Seemed like a lot in the box at the store, but now that I have it stacked, I am startign to wonder if I need more. What do you think (see pics below). also, feel free to let me know if my rock arranging job *****. I am not artistic in the least, so any thoughts (critical or supportive) are welcome.

These pics were taken as the sandstorm was still dying down...

How many #

did you get I deffintly say you have room for more the rule of thumb is at least 1 to 2 pounds for every gallon many have 3-4 per gallon as far as I know you can have to few but not too much only problem that lots of lots of lr is it allows for more dead spots. also have to look at the density if the lr if you get cheap carribean of florida lr you will need allot more then if you get say Fiji or Tonga among others..

I ended up with 24# (a pound per gallon) at this point. I am thinking it needs to get a little taller. I like the cave I made, but might put a little piece in the middle of it so it is not as gaping...

Like I said though I am a newbie, so I was not sure what is preferred. also, as far as future addition of corals, is there a preferred layout?

What do you think?

I think that what you have is fine, but it all depends on what it is you want to do. I have very minimal live rock in my tank, as I would much prefer the corals having room to branch up and grow. But if your passion is zooanthids, then add more rock so you can have the most polyps going all the way up.

Follow your vision of what you want the tank to look like in the end and don't worry about what others think. In the end you have to live with it.

Looks like you started out pretty good so far.

Thanks!! For a guy that is not handy, I have been pretty proud of the mods I have made to the cube. So far I have ditched the stock pump, replacing it with a MJ 900, added a second MJ900 by drilling the back wall out and adding a bulkhead, I have modded the integrated hood for better (and quieter) air movement, and a few smaller things. It have been fun messing around with this stuff.
