I decided to purchase an AquaClear 110 (formally the 500) and mod it to make a fuge for my 10 gal. I figured if i was going to do it, I may as well make a thread showing how to do it seeming how i couldnt find one on here. So here is how I did it, im sure there are other and better ways.

Step One:
Get an AquaClear 110 and inventory your pieces to ensure you have everything.

Step Two:
Remove the bottom of the basket and cut to fit. This will become the screen to keep the algae in the fuge. Glue into place(I forgot to take a picture of it glued into place you can kinda see in the finished product:eek: )

Step 3:
Measure and cut baffles. I used acrylic that i bought at Home Depot. The baffles taper slightly from the top to bottom and it can be tricky to get right. again i was forgot to take pictures of the baffles before i put them in i was frustrated:D

Step 4: Cut intake tube. The intake to is to long for a standard ten gallon therefore i had to cut it to make it fit my tank. (Be sure to cut the proper side, the one going into your tank, other wise it wont work:p )

Step 5: Place on tank, add water, and run.

That acrylic baffle near the outlet, either mounted vertical or on an angle is an absolute requirement for this. I tried without, and even with an AC20 impeller, the macro still floated up and crept out of the "basket barrier".

Hey thanks ereefer. I was gone for a day and when i got back my internet in my apt was down. I just got back up today, so thanks for reposting that for me. As far as moding the impeller or switching it for a smaller one, so far the flow hasnt been to bad. it moved some of my sand but its working fine. All my corals are doing well. Thanks

To save you some time searching in case you decide to....you can not switch the impeller with any other AC filter, it is one of a kind. The only way to reduce flow is to mod the impeller.
