Hello Reefers,

Please help me ID this coral. I have asked couple of people and seem to get conflicting answers, some good and some bad.

It seems to be some kind of Anenome ( not sure about the spelling)

It feeds well and splits fast, I have about 12 in my tank already.

Your help is appreciated reefers!!!!

Thank you.

Gats is right, that's a HUGE Aiptasia! No wonder it has split 12 times. It's probably split more than 12x as welll, the babies just haven't shown themselves..... yet.

You're going to need a heck of a lot of Joe's Juice or Kalk (or a bobcat or backhoe). That sucker looks too big for a Peppermint to even think about eating.

Time for a mass murder to go down.

Just my opinion, and I could be wrong, but I am not so sure thats an aptasia....

The base doesnt look like any aptasia base I have seen. The color of the base is throwing me off too.

Back when I did FOWLR, I too fedd a couple aptasias, and grew them huge. When they got that big, they stil looked like giant aptasias.

That one looks to have really fat tenticles, to many tenticles (and not just around the edges of the mouth, but in rows) and a base like alot of good nems, not the skinny long tube that an aptasia has.

Before going and juicing these nems, wait for a few more responces. A couple days wont hurt.

As said, I could be wrong, but....

it should, havent heard many reviews on it. Joes juice works the best in my opinion..... just make sure you get them right in the mouth with it. Being a new setup, move your rocks and check the bottoms of them as well! Gotta nip this outbreak in the bud, think dandelions... same principal! good luck! :butcher:

Thanks sue, I will be checking the rocks and stuff.

Patrick,

The biggest one is about one inch in Diameter and one Inch in stalk (not considering tentacles). There are other small ones which are half inch in diameter and one inch tall (considering the tentacles)

When touched by hand the tentacles go into the stalk and the stalk feels like a soft bubble ball.

I hope this info helps.

FYI: I have some aptasia in my tank wich are brown in color and they stay brown color even if they grow big.

I have never had duncans, but I am told that they stalks' of duncans are hard but in my case they are soft and the tentacles go inside the stalk when touched.

The reason this whole thing came up is because I saw a similar one on sale in the selling section and that arroused my curiosity.

Thanks

I would swear that the first pic is a duncan. Look at the base, and how fat it is. He second one looks like aptasia though. i would recommend joes juice or something along those lines, and an army of pep shrimp.

If your duncan has split 12 times, you suck.

That's definitely not aptasia, but looks similar to Majano
If they have already multiplied that much I would get rid of them asap.

Not Duncans either. Duncans have a skeleton, and multiply with babies forming around the perimeter of the mother polyp. Not separate babies

Update

Reefers,

I was taking a closer look at my tank and I found there are a total of 16 in my tank. I applied aptasia X on 14 of them, 4 of them are gone (vanished) and the rest of them are all looking weak and hopefully will melt away, else I will inject some more aptasia X . I got two more to take care of and hopefuly can reach them today. Will keep you all posted on how effective aptrasia X is. So far its working well and I put couple of drops on the mouth of the aptasia and then punchered the mouth and put some inside as well.

Kirbster,

I am curious to know why are they worse than aptasia's? I want to understand what do these guys do besides competing for food. I am relatively a new reefer and would like to undo any bad effect it might have caused

Thanks

They multiply and move anywhere they want at will. Then they extend their tentacles and sting your corals causing them to close up and/or die. Either way, they should be eradicated with all prejudice!!!! Take no enemies, kill them all, let god sort them out..:3195:
