I have a modded octopus DNW-150. mods are, gate valve, mesh mod, and venturi mod. skimmer is sitting in 13" of water ( i know this is high, but i cannot find the specs, and as i said, it has NEVER acted thiis way before) my gate valve is about 14" up from the bottom of the skimmer.
heres the deal, this skimmer has been perfect, i set it up, minor tuning, and it has needed no adjustment since, produced excellent skimmate, never acted goofy.
just yesterday, i re-aquascaped, and added some new live rock. I shut my skimmer and sump off just to make things a little easier (i always do this when i play in the tank). couple hours later when i was finished, i plug them back in. BAM, skimmer is overflowing like crazy, and producing MASSIVE amounts of bubbles everywhere. So i figure its cuz i disturbed the tank pretty good. I let it sit for a few hours, plug it back in, same thing. Clean it, try again, same thing. So i let it sit overnight, try it again thismorning, same thing. Hell with it, i pull the skimmer out, pull it apart, make sure nothing is plugged, clean it out real good, and hook it back up, same thing.
Without adjusting anything, my skimmer lost its mind, the ammount of bubbles it is pumping out is rediculous, and even if i adjust it so that it doesnt overflow, it just poors bubbles back into my tank. I adjusted on this thing for about 2 hours earlier, and made absolutely no progress.
The only odd thing i noticed was when i cut the air way down, the pump begins chattering like crazy, and sometimes stops pumping, and it will only start back up when i introduce air back to it (open the valve).
I did get rid of 2 tangs and another fish yesterday, but i highly doubt that has anything to do with it, and all water params are ok.
