Definitely do an acid was to get everything off there and take the time and let it fully dry, throw some fans on it if ya have to, then u can do all your aquascapingvoutside the tank and throw the pieces right in as one bro... Looks great tho can't wait to see more!

surprised how much the bleach did just overnight. friday is going to be judgment day. i have three "concern" pieces that will be the deciding factor. they pass then no acid, they fail and game on!

ok, truth be told. i can't tell if i still smell bleach on the rock or if my mind is playing tricks on me. so a lot of folks are talking about acids to not only clean but to get rid of the chlorine bleach. i cannot find proof of this but hey what the heck. so the rock is now in a roughly 10% vinegar and water solution and i am SOLD on the acid cleanup. this rock has been bleached and rinsed and power washed and soaked till i thought there could be nothing left. 30 seconds in the vinegar mix and all sorts of detritus looking crud was floating all over the place. awesome!!! if it convinces my mind that the bleach is no longer there then hey thats a bonus too!

so after the vinegar bath and two total fresh water changes with 24 hour soaks per each change the rock still had garbage in it. soaked it in hot water and swished every piece around by hand. water was brown after. so repeated till the water stayed clear. took hours.

rock is now in the tank in saltwater. no cloudiness and no brown thank goodness. let the cycle begin...

i have "played" with the idea of an ato in the past but never fully built one. here is the plan.

ro/di unit to a float switch in a 30 gallon brute trash can with a bulkhead installed at the top for overflow. this bulkhead plumbs into the sump pump "pit" for the house. maxi jet for a pump in that brute leading to this AutoTopoff.com

suggestions?

tank is clear by the way and overflow and return are silent. i love it when a plan comes together.

"dead" rock setup. all pumps on, skimmer skimming, flux capacitor - fluxing and lights on a ten hour cycle. playing with the plusrite bulbs again, i really like both the 14k and the 20k. not sure which i like more. this is the 14k running. pics show the color to be slightly more blue than they are. this bulb is almost pure white with a tinge of blue. pics of the 20k to come.

Great to see my old tank back up and running! I actually went downstairs last night after I saw your thread to check for the overflow covers so I could send them to you and I can't find them anywhere!!! I am wondering if the wife threw them out when I wasn't looking... :big_boss: If you were still wanting covers you could call Glass Cages and I am sure they still make the covers for them.

Just a thought.

Here is a link to some information.

I called them a few years ago. I forget what the quote was but before shipping it was ridiculous.

Just a heads up. I called glasscages and they said they would be $35 each, you just need to measure the overflow and see if it is 10" x 6.5" or 10" x 6". So $70 for the pair and then she said whatever the actual UPS charges would be to ship them.

Hopefully that is cheaper than what you were quoted before and is helpful!
