First meeting is as soon as someone would like to host one.

Everyone, please feel free to plan an event/meeting/get together. Just post it in the club forums, and give enough advance notice for members to post if they are able to make it.

I will be planning some meetings myself, soon. Just gotta get my tank and fish room finished off.

Glad to have you Brad.

In the past 3 years many local members have gotten out, moved on, or just arent interested. I figured a new list was very much needed, with all the new locals i have seen online.

I am very happy to say, we got another really great list of local reefers. I didnt even realize we had so many. We will have a great 2014 year this year, I am thinking.

Ok, could someone define for me what a local meeting would look like? What do ya do at these things? Do we basically 1. show up at someones house with frags/swaps, 2. gwak at the hosts tank shake hands and 3. leave? (hopefully with different frags than we came in the door with)

If it doesn't look like this, could someone explain what to expect. If that's all we do, and no one else has a better tank to gwak at, then I'd open my door for the event with my 1.5 year old 90 Gal. The only buzz kill I would have is no Alcohol, so some members would probably prefer a different house then mine. :) (I'm in Dexter).

Jason- A local meeting can be whatever the host would like. In the past, we have had fragging demonstrations and group sponsored food making meetings. We have also had holiday dinner meetings with other clubs. Really, a meeting can be whatever the host decides to put together for or with the members in the club.

Opening your door for members to see your tank in person is a great idea. I know I would attend, and am sure others would come out also. I will be doing something similar once my tank is more established (and stocked), and hope others this fall, as summer winds down, will do as well.

Lets do it.

Well,

In lieu of 1. Having never attended a meeting 2. Having never heard of any meetings and 3. Wanting to meet other peeps in the hobby

I'm going to open my home for a AARC meeting. Basically we'll do the following:
1. Gaggle around my tank and point out any rules/guidelines I'm breaking.
2. Point at my aquascaping that is permanent and tell me how I should have done it.
3. Count the number of mini Starfish you can find (probably in the 100's)
4. Swap coral/whatever.

When: Sat, Sept 27th @ 8 pm
Where: 521 Coventry Circle Dexter Mi 48130
What to bring: Corral and/or Cash

We'll hang around for an hour or two and then go get our new corals in their new homes.

SirP., do you have a list of all the members that we could email out to so that they hear about it? I don't think many people jump into this thread very often.

I'll put an 'ad' up in the selling forums to show off stuff we're bringing (aka, my tank. :) ) and to let people know about it (http://www.michiganreefers.com/foru...s.com/forums/selling-forums/181690-ann-arbor-reef-club-meeting.html#post1276770).

Consider me part of the club. I'll be unable to attend on the 27th however. Appreciate the opportunity, jjudd.

I'm planning a bit of a reef re-do here and may need a temporary home for some livestock. If anyone's interested in helping, send me a PM and I'll fill you in on the details. I'm figuring I'm a month out from the need.

TIA
