These are and will continue to be made in the USA. -yes I confirmed that with EcoTech. If anyone wants information on these please feel free to contact me. I'll be glad to talk about both pumps. I'll be selling my Tunze Stream just as soon as I can get my hands on another VorTech.

give them time

awesome! I wish they made different models
I have mine on order i ordered 1 for right now because I am going to set up a 2200 gallon in line pump plus another 800-1000 gph though the sump. but one the Vortec and adjustable but giving time they probably will make a smaller model smaller price. in the mean time I can't wait to get mine then my Seio's go up for sale. :D

Would one work on a 4ft tank (120)? I'm guessing I'd need two if it was my only source of flow. I'm struggling with what to do for flow on my new 120. I really don't want to drill and setup a big pump with something like an Oceans Motions device if I can get even better results and control with these, not to mention the simplicity. The cost is the big kicker. Control is the other. I'm still not sure how I can interface to the motor controller on these things. From the pictures I've seen of the connector, it's just a brushless motor. If that's the case, I should be able to interface it to my controller, thus providing much better control than a closed loop system.

Still having a hard time to justify these things. I'll have to see one in action. The thought of compete computer control of the flow is intriguing.

the site that I ordered mine from has a video plus he only took a deposit of 50 plus 15 for shipping today express when it comes in every other site wanted the whole thing then I am out 365 bucks till it comes in   http://www.aquariumspecialty.com/ca...atalog/product_info.php?products_id=422&osCsid=ff19b85c3d78e4f49396c75a7ae7bb55
i know it doesn't state the price but the total is $365 total my balance will be 300 bucks when it comes in. when I get it you are welcome to check it out and see it in person. he just emailed me today and said the order is expected soon. like I said I am only getting one because I am planing on a closed loop system for half of it. funny how nobody has never thought twice of the price of a tunze but everybody is struggling with this one. looks better in the tank, 0 heat exchange ok maybe a small amount of heat passing though the acrylic or glass. and they designed it so if something gets stuck in there including animals the powerhead shuts down preventing harm to the powerhead or animals.:D

With a tunze you can atleast aim the thing and they have been tested. I can't see spending $350 on product that JUST came out. 1st revs are always a mix of non working products. Before I throw down a large chunk of change ill wait 6 months and see how early adopters like them.

I know this is a thread about the vortec pumps but at $365 I just have to mention this...
For the same amount of money you can up the 3,100gph to 60,000gph
You can get three Mag18's and the parts necessary to make each one put out, an admittedly estimated, 15,000 - 20,000gph (according to the post a few entries down on this page)
http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=790770&perpage=25&pagenumber=25

No flames please. I know these vortec pumps are plug and play, no mods necessary, controllable, motor outside, sweet looking, low energy, and all that. I'm not trying to talk anyone into (or out of) anything. I just ran across a $100 pump that puts out crazy amounts of flow with a little modding so I thought I would share the info.

Robb
p.s. I would like one of these pumps too but I'm even balking at the $100 pump LOL

The mag 18 would heat the water with 145 watts. VorTech < 1 watt of heating. Mag 18 size in the tank with added parts would be a considerable eyesore; not to mention blowing the tissue of any coral in its way.

People keep harping on the can't point it issue. After you put your hand in a tank with both the Tunze & a VorTech you will be convinced that you don't need to direct the much wider flow that the VorTech has.

that's cool we will just have are vortech and then people can find out why they are so good after words I already have my red dragon I know allot of people think that's crazy too.. but that's ok. I know I will have about 6000 gph going though the tank wit almost no heat, 95% of it will be from the sump to the tank.
and asfar as aiming a vortech I can move it from one side of the tank front to back in two seconds.. :D in my eyes it's replacing two seios and about 160 watts in the tank after selling the seio's it will cost me about 250. some people want ferarri's some want civic's

I hear that

I just want a ferarri for the cost of a civic:)

Lots of factors to take into account here. There should be more information in the coming months from the early buyers.
My logic is based on the bata testers I have not read one bad report and everybody that has them is selling there tunze. like I said before too when I get mine anybody is welcome to come see it.. :D

some people want ferarri's some want civic's
how can you say tunze is a civic, there the best out and have been for a long time .tunzes last a long time ,its not a piece that your going to have to buy again .you got something thats new to the hobby, and still need some time to even be in the same league tunze .you cant even controle it , you now have to hope that the controle comes out . if i remember the seio were going to have a controller also ,but never happened.
also looking at the pic of the 2 covers how do you think the thin piece will hold up. looks like it might brake if you need to give it a firm turn to get it off the pump

Right now thats exactly the biggest thing that makes me leary of them.

A beta testing thats ALL, roses and sunshine. Nothing is all that, and I would agree with the quote from Labman. Every beta tester has defended the nay sayers as defiently as Wbeavers has.

All roses and sunshine.

the biggest down fall to me is , the cord hanging on the side of the tank .you can put it on the back wall and aim it the long way .what happens when the piece on the outside of the tank its the floor a few time . are you going to be out 365 buck.i see a few post coming ,my kid tripped over the cord and now my new vortech is in piece .

never said that

tunze vs the vortech would be more like lambo vs ferrai my reference was to the peaple say just get a mag pump and other such pumps. bottom line I think it's worth it for my tank. I might be the 1st guy on here saying I got ripped who knows. life is full of gambles this one is mine. bottom at least that is how I feel about mine I can't wait till mine is ready to ship
