The Discus have did "it" again! More eggs! ALREADY!!!

So, they are still in the 125 Gal Display tank and have laid eggs again on the less "popular" side. They had laid eggs on a riser tube that's connected to my undergavel filter. So, I turned the riser about 90 degrees so it woud be hard for any of the discus to eat the eggs, but they would still be able to fan them with water to keep them clean.

congrats your discus must be realy happy to be spawning that much
are you shure it is the same pair spawning every time or has it been different discus doing the deed each time

Same ones, I've watched them each time. It's the San Merah and the other... not sure as to what kind...

I'm thinkin' that same thing, I thought they were suppose to spawn frequently within a week or so... but, alas they are at it again.

well they could be just trying to get into the groove of things I mean this is the first time so they might just be practicing with infirtle eggs my jewel cichlids did this when I first got them then once they got the hang of it it was once a month till they gave me a good batch of wigglers wich I promptly stole from them and placed in a growout tank (shouldn't have done it due to too many fish I cant sell) and since that first sucessfull batch they havent spawned since I cant figure it out

Check with your LFS, they may want them... 2 or 3 LFSs have already said they are interested in some discus if I can get them to breed.

yea I wish they were interested but they are not giving any credit for fish braught in right now havent been fro quite some time they will take them but wont give me anything in return

I have raised these from eggs to almost full grown I am not just going to give them away for free not to mention I still have a bunch of those acei fry

Yeah, they were eaten again... BUT I did finally finish setting up my breeder tank for them... BUT (ha another one!) now I'm not sure if I have 2 females and a male that are trying to breed as a threesome...? Think back to my original post about how I wasn't sure if the Cobalt Blue (I think) was the father or if it was the San Merah as the father... well, yesterday I saw the San Merah and the Cobalt together near a uplift tube... cleaning it off... the same way the other one was with the San Merah... but now BOTH the Cobalt and the San Merah chased the other one away...    and I absolutely DID see the other discus lay the eggs from the previous two batches... so, WTF is going on?!?! Do I have a mated threesome? What should I do? I now have a 40Gal tall breeding setup almost completely ready for them... and now I'm not sure if I should add all three, or the two that I KNOW have mated in there... btw, it also looks like the cobalt has an elongated genital papila... so, it's either try to fertiliize the eggs also... or it's about to lay some eggs... or maybe I'm wrong and the cobalt is the male and the other is the female, and the San Merah is the pervert that likes to watch and help take care of the eggs... this is why I could never be into group sex, it's just too confusing....

LOL

well actualy this is quite common especialy with angels and discus if they are over crouded in a tank if you have two that seem like an actual pair you could seperate them out or even use a divider in the tank the next time they lay eggs so that the others cant come pester them

I would say the one that is tending the eggs is the male and the others are females from what I have read about discus breeding habbits the male tends to the eggs but dont quote me on this

a site I would recomend you post a few questions on is fishgeeks.com they are exelent for freshwater but terible if you ask questions about salt there

I was a very active member there till I started setting up my salt tank and they made me mad by basicly refusing to help in any way so I quit posting except on rare ocasion any more

I'm a member at Discusasahobby.com it's a site about discus... obviously, I stopped going there because I got tired of everyone talking about their Discus... plus, I set up my SW tank and everything on here is more local... And I have all the info about Discus I need whenever I ask Cary somethin' hmm... perhaps he'll pop in and give me some advice on this thread... -devil 2

Discus are cleaning off another riser... again... will probally lay eggs soon...

Good news though, my breeder tank is up and running, did a 75% water change to it today, I took the water from my main discus tank to refill my breeder tank, that way acclimation should be easy on them... I won't be adding them to the tank until thursday at the earliest, depending on how close I can get all of the water parameters... plus I still need to find somethin' for them to lay their eggs on, I may just do the turned over flowerpot... pfft it's tried tested and true. Should I get a plastic one or a clay one?

get the tericotta one the plastic will float on ya more than likly and they can have oils that could leach out where as tericotta dont

LOL and I dont even have discus and to be honest tempted to get rid of the fw all together and go strait salt with exception to the wifes golds tank

After talkin' with Cary, once I transfer my discus pair to their new honeymoon suite, I'll be getting a silver Arrowana for my 125 Gal tank... I miss having mine...
