I am sorry to hear this.It must really hurt you had amazing collection of corals. How did the netritrator go wrong ibn the tank?LMK if you need anything.
Thanks bud, yeah it does hurt. the denitrator was not sized right (excessively oversized) and I feel I did not do a good job getting it tuned into my system. Thanks for the offer, I am currently working on the concept of what I want my tank to look as in the next three years. Once done I will hit the ground looking for some corals

Thanks calvin, how are things with your tank?
Thanks for asking. Fighting some cyano at the moment, but trying Microbe Lift Special Blend to try and eradicate it. Other than that everything is going fairly well.

I am sure in time your tank will be better than it was before. You have the knowledge and skills to keep a stunning tank and you never lose that. Can't wait to watch it progress again.

Thanks for the confidence Calvin. I am debating between 100% sps or 100%lps . Cant decide.

Bummer manoj...

thanks bro

Hope to see the rebirth soon.
If you are opening it up for a vote, I would vote SPS. :jester:

In all seriousness, do whatever excites you the most at the moment. There are a lot of cool corals either direction you go.
Do you have any suggestion for lighting. I am looking for about 300-400 Par @ 22 inch depth?

How about a ZEOVit SPS system? :3195:

I have a diy retro kit. It has 5 bulbs. I get about 200 par at about 16 inches from top. So that might not work for what I am planning.

What kind of fixture do you have? also what kind of sps are you growing at 20inches?

Hi Manoj,

Hope all is well!

I have an 8x80 ATI Sunpower over an 18" deep rimless. With the fixture 13.5" above my tank and the PAR sensor 9" under the water (10" from top of aquarium), I am getting 425 par at the center of the tank. The bulbs were changed on 4/1/12. Each inch I lower the fixture equates to an increase of ~25 in incremental PAR. This means the PAR on my bare bottom is ~200. I will lower the light 1" every five days until I hit 500 PAR.

I have the following bulb configuration:

Blue+
Blue+
Actinic
Aquablue
Aquablue
Actinic
Blue+
Blue+

The ATI PM only produces 5% more PAR against a comparitive SP model (Per the Reefcentral)

The 30" depth is the challenge here. Are you going bare bottom?

Warmest Regards,
James

Thats very good information James. I mis typed I am looking at 22 inch depth and not 30 as I had mentioned previously. So considering what you have said I think I should be okay with the ati sp module.

Can you guide me as to should I go for the sp 6 bulb or 8 bulb? My tank foot print is 36*18

I am not going bare bottom though.

I am currently running an aquatinics constelation. I have been considering changing to an 8x80 Sunpower though. For a 36x18 tank I would do a 6 bulb fixture, and there are none better than the ATI fixtures.

I have a tenius, another unknown acro and a setosa all growing well in the bottom third of my tank, as well as some encrusting montis. Hope that helps.

Also my fixture is hung fairly close to the top of the tank, sitting at 2" to 2 1/2" over the top of the tank.

I agree. The 6 bulb would be a perfect match. Now you just have to decide PM or SP. :victory:

I keep all of my acropora directly underneath the light fixture. Montis I can place on the bottom of the tank, against the glass, and grow rapidly without issues. I do feel comfortable recommending the 6 bulb as you should have no problem bleaching your corals if your not careful. You do also have the option of going with the 8 bulb fixture if you plan on growing SPS right up the the glass. If you do plan on keeping some LPS, then its all the more reason to use the 6 bulb. With my SP, I have an extra 4.5" that is not directly under the fixture. Not am issue IMHO. With the 6 bulb, you will have an extra 4.6" that is not directly underneath the fixture. You could always go with the 8 bulb dimming unit if you really want to go all out. :)

I agree James the 6bulb should do it for me. I do want to leave few inches from the glass . My objective this time would be to use more negative space from last time so based on that the 6 bulb should do the trick for me. I have always wanted to grow tabling acros at the bottom of the tank and I want to take this opportunity to do that.
