I just woke up a loud bang only to find one of my large 12 year old fish in his death rows. I figure he got spooked and bashed his head :'(. I found it impossible to just "throw him away" and was curious what others have done with long time companion fish, salt or fresh.
A very sad,
Jen

I had a Red Bellly Piranha for about 12 years until he kicked off. Buried him about a foot deep wrapped in foil. The next day a darn racoon dug him up and took off with him... I wanted to retrieve his jawbone after a few years to make a little display...

I have a few fish friends still in the freezer for lack of better place to put them when they died in the winter and would not fit down the flusher or felt suitable to trash them... I once made the mistake of showing one of them to my buddies girlfriend at the time and she absolutely FREAKED OUT!!!

No large pets or chest freezers for this guy!

I have three cats and may not be able to find any corpse. So no ritual here.

My toilet would not have appreciated this fish, he was over a foot long. It would have probably been the most expensive of my fish funerals after the plumbers bill... But I am happy with his little spot in the garden. Put a large rock over it to discourage scavengers from digging.
