I was just thinking about this again and I'm curious, those of you who have/maintain a network, do you have a naming scheme for your computers? I guess even those of you who don't have/maintain a network, do you name your computer?
Personally, all of the computers at the house in Lansing have been named after stars. My main desktop is named 'Arcturus', the former Sun Ultra 1 webserver was named 'Antares' when it was in operation. It has since been taken down. My laptop is named 'Spica'. I've got a few more machines that were given to me in the basement waiting to be setup and they are going to go with the theme as well.
At home, in the LAN Room, each machine is named "LPCxx" where xx is replaced by the computer's number. Originally, we were going to use a theme of famous yet semi-obscure scientists (people coming up in research of String Theory, Time Travel, etc.) but we deicded for ease of maintenence, that we'd just go with a systematic naming scheme. The rest of the family's computers are named after them (ie. my sisters is 'rachael').
At work, all of the lab machines are named after the building location, the room number, and their computer number, because we do a lot of maintenence on them remotely. All of the computer's we send out to professors, grad students, and the many departments get made up names. Thats part of the fun of the job
For some reason, several of them are named after Pokemon
So am I the only nutcase that names his computers, aside from a purly systemematic scheme?
