What size sump? Where are the in and out? How big are the compartments? Are you making bubble traps? Typically the flow is not divided like that, the flow continues one way, not to say your method is incorrect, just stating what is usually done. Please do not take my questions as if I am grilling you, just with more data it will be easier to see any potential problems. Google sketch up 6, is free and a good CAD software for the price!

were looking at a tank that is 36 long by 24 wide. bubble traps will be right after the input and before the return area. by making the U turn I would in essence have a 6 foot long fuge 12 inches wide. two compartments or a DSB and a second for Cheato and Rubble. I was thinking about the skimmer compartment being 12 inches wide. I would also have a phosban and calcium reactor dump into this area...I have never seen one do the u turn either. Has anyone tried and succeeded with a similar design. do you see any problems?
