Worm

you need to get rid of it. I did a little research and they can grow up to 10 feet in length, but average about three. At four inches, they are sexually mature.

They are predatory, and not scavengers. They burrow themselves in sand/gravel and send out a feeler. When a fish triggers a feeler, the worm springs into action with enough speed and force to cut the fish in half.

Only two other groups of polychaetes, the Family Eunicidae, and the Family Lysaretidae contain large worms that are commonly found in reef aquaria. The first of these groups, the eunicid worms, is a large diverse group with over 200 species. The second, the lysaretid worms, is a small group with only about ten or fifteen described species; unfortunately, the lysaretid worms are predatory and deadly to many reef aquarium inhabitants. Even more unfortunately, they are reasonably common in live rock

Here are some facts on these nasty a@@,s...

Commonly know as Bobbit Worm, the reason why he got this lovely name is due to the fact that the female worm attacks the male penis and feeds it to her young after mating...

The most common size for the worm is around 1 meter. But they have been reports of some specimens that where is the size range of 3 meters.

or u can always try your luck with Get a male bobbit worm and if your existing is a male, they will fight. If its a female, the will mate. Then, the female worm attacks the male penis and feeds it to her young after mating... The male will be go beserk and you can find both the adults nearby easily. The bad point, you have to search high and low for the young ones if they had scram off.

1)perhaps you can lure it to a DIY worm trap

2)some nudibranchs eat it, eg: Philinopsis pilsbryi

3)Also try a large arrow crab they are good for worms.
Bobbit worms do not have penises! Sorry for necroing this but for future readers, Bobbit worms fill their lower segments with sperm before mating, sometimes even detaching it. They then swim into open waters where the eggs and sperm mix in open water. Bobbit worms do not care for their young. Bobbit worms are plankton while in their larval stage, and establish pretty much wherever they land.

Read through this again today. First came across this write up a few years ago and it was linked in Reddit once again today. How funny to think how many people have seen this little story about one man’s adventure with his aquarium and a bobbit worm in Michigan. One of the pictures posted in the thread had 32k views!!! The internet and social media has done a lot of good and a lot of bad to society….this story and the smiles and connections it creates is an example of the good!!
