Hello,

I just started my 2nd tank today and want to turn it into a seahorse tank. Is anyone going to be having any fry available in about a month to two months? I'd like to get a pair that could possibly mate, and i'd like them to be young ones. Don't really want to buy from LFS, would like to purchase from a breeder that knows all.

Let me know,
Thanks,
Rob

P.S. Happy Holidays!

I should have some available when you need them.My newest fry are only 2 weeks old, but I have many that are older. Just let me know about 1 week or so before you want them. I have erectus. They are shades of yellows and browns.

getting my nano ready for a couple of seahorses

Can anyone that has seahorses tell me what types of things I can or should put in the tank with them? What type of clean-up crew critters? are small hermits a no no?

I was thinking of adding a few very small hermits and a couple of astrea snails. I'd like to put in a goby or mandarin also. Can i put in any corals? maybe mushrooms of sinularia. Will they use the sinularia to hold on too? what else can i or should I put in there?

Also what parameters should I be at for temp and lighting? I have the standard moon light and white PC lighting. Should I get the upgrade lighting kit for the tank?

Thanks,
Rob

Ph 8.0
Temp 7.2-7.4 for erectus some go higher
the clean up crew your looking at would be fine but try to get the small hermits not those big boys.
I personaly have a watchman goby w/ my 10 and a manderian. Just remember that the manderian will eat the pods up fast which is food to the seahorses. I think the only reason I have had good luck is that mine love mysis and he tends to eat more mysis then pods. Ps lighting is fine for the horses they really don't need specail lighting. Mine do love the moonlight and you get to see all sorts of stuff at night.
Items that can be kept are open to shrooms, leathers, gorgoians, and so on there is a good list on www.seahorse.org on tank mates. it your looking for something special I would ask before I put it in. Stay away from any coral w/sweeper tenticals. I hope this helps.

the sinularia is my horses favorite place to hang out and it is growing great in low /med flow

Sorry everyone I been out of town. Yes I do have horses available for $35.00 each - lots of sizes available. Give me a call when your interested 586-598-7716.
I keep my large (1-2 yr old) horses in a 37 cube - I have 5 in there now, but have had as many as 8 with no problem - just watch the water and have LOTS of live rock. I have used both florescent and sub compacts for lighting. I have a tetra-tec filter and a cpr bakpak, I also have live sand. As Michelle said, seahorse.org is a great place to find out what fish and what corals can go in the tanks. if you have any other questions feel free to give me a call.
