Well it's that time again.....new system setup.

What we have is a newly cleaned out Fish Room, and are going to build a frag system.

Tanks involved at this point:
150G Rubbermaid container
150G Medical Grade Holding Tank
90G AGA
55G Hole Drilled Glass Tank
60GGlass Frag Tank 36x18x12

At this point, I am thinking 150G Rubbermaid container for sump/equipment holder (skimmer, etc)/live rock holder, 150G Holding Tank for DSB, 90G AGA for Broodstock growout, 55G Glass for refugium, 35G glass for frag growout.
These are the tanks I currently possess and would welcome different ideas for their usage.

I will probably run the system with a MAG 24 and control in tank flow with powerheads w/mod kits.

I will have 2x 400watt moguls, 1x 175watt mogul, and am considering a 6-8 bulb 40watt HO setup for the frag tank.

Just in the beginning stages of this one at this time (gathering equipment).
Plan to run a bunch of DIY equipment such as Skimmer, Calcium and Kalk Reactors....

Still need to figure out the heaters.

nice

do you have access to you a hot water heater? For that much volume making a heat exchanger set up would work nicely and be alot cheaper to run. I think black71gp (jarrod) did that with his lagoon set up.

Hot water heater:confused: can you elaborate!!! Not sure what you are asking.

Looks awesome guys!

IMO, I would probably run the 55 for frags and 35 for fuge, or something of the sorts, but with that kind of volume going I think you'd fill up a 35 really fast (with frags).

Hey Steve,

people will run tubing from the hot water heater (with hot water running through it of course) through their sump to maintain water temperature. Its like a closed loop from your water heater. Same idea as heating a floor with hot water (kind of..lol). I have seen this done to cool tanks down too.

I'll see if I can find a good link for you showing an example.

Thanks guy's for the kind words.

Now I see what you mean about the hot water heater. I have something like that for my house hot water. I will definitely look into that setup. How do you regulate the temp? with gate valves or a slower pump?

I just started to build the stands for the tanks tonight, I will need to get more done before I post up more pictures.

Thanks again

Some progress

Well, finally have had some time to play with the new setup.

Looks like I will be using a newly acquired 60G glass frag tank instead of the 35G...for now. (Thanks WBeavs)

Still need to acquire a pump to run this 5-tank system. Was thinking about a Dolphin 3600 gph pump that is for sale used from a member here, but am also being told that the Dolphin pump may add $50.00 or more to my monthly electric bill.....not good considering this system will most likely be lit with Halides.

Am also strongly considering using that water heater method to heat this thing. In the summer it may get waaaay too hot back in the fish room, so I may also need to incorporate that full size Co-----pop machine as a DIY chiller. :D More on that later.

As for update pics:

Hey Steve,

Where did you grab that cool water holding tank? I'm looking at some through Tractor Supply, but they are around $300 (new). Hoping to spend less than that  , but I need it to be 150 gal-ish for the new systems RO/DI storage.

Thanks!

I got it from a guy that bought it used, from another, that bought it used. So I have no idea... Sorry...

Plumbing time

Well its time for some plumbing. I went with 1" drains and 3/4" returns. Everything is dry fit for now, will be using 1 1/2 drain out of the upright 150g bucket, (not shown in pics) will also have a drain on this to make water changes easier.
