So I transferred all my old livestock into the new tank about a month ago. everyone was doing fine except my Chevron Tang had ich. Not a huge surprise since it comes and goes with him.
I added a few new fish over the last few weeks. Needless to say the ich started spreading to other fish. I should have expected it to a certain extent but the chevron had ich in my old tank and no one else ever got it.

I tried No-Ich marine first. That didn't do anything. Next I got some metranidizole and started soaking the food in it. Still no noticable improvements, in fact it got worse.

Monday I lost one of the new fish. The others looked about the same.

I also tried adding a little bit of Melafix to help them shake the ich.

Today I come home and the fish look horrible. My one tang has patches of white stuff on him. The chevron is still the same. My midas blenny looks like crap, his gills are swollen he has cloudy eyes and some weird spots.
The other fish seem to have tore up fins and look a little battered.

I was doing some research last night to see if it could possibly be something else. I came upon flukes.
Today I called up kee's and asked Jason what he thought about it. From what the symptoms he inquired about and the symptoms my fish have it seemed highly likely they could have flukes.
I went up to kee's and grabbed a bottle of Prazipro. I came home and dosed the recommended dosage. Now I have to sit and wait to see if they get better.
It's truly frustrating and heartbreaking. I've had some of these fish for 2+ years and they have always been healthy. Now I have them in a nice huge tank and they are dying.
I really hope most of them pull through. I'm crossing my fingers.

Anyone have any advise or experience with this sort of thing?

I hope I caught it enough to save most of them. So far with this new upgrade I already lost 3-4 of my prized fish, then I lost a new fish I was super excited to get, and now this.
I guess I've dodged bullets in the past. I really need to setup a hospital/quarantine tank.

I am really sorry to hear this!!!
Does not sound like flukes to me. IMO sounds like ammonia poisoning. Have you tested for ammonia? Adding meds can destroy bak esp in a new tank.
When i hear of slime coats slurring off or the likes ammonia is my first thought.
Do you have an ammonia test kit?

I soak all my food in seachem garlic and vitamarin C, everyday.

I tested my water and had Kee's test it also. Alk was a little low as well as ph but nothing too bad. Nitrates were 0. Would ammonia show up on basic tests?

I haven't had a chance to check on the fish today but I will report the news when I get home this evening.

when i get new they always go in quarantine for 30 days before they go into my main set up. it goes the same when one is acting out of the norm too. what i would do is test the water if your water is normal then what i would honestly do is take pics and go to my local pet store and have them set you up with a meds. that can treat the problems of your fish.

Oh man so sorry to hear this. :(Sounds like the ich spreaded. Remember I told you about my disastrous story. I guess you can only go so far without qurantining fish. I've learned it the hard way and now I know how important qurantining is especially for Tangs and Angels. I can only suggest catching all the fish and putting them in a big container ...maybe a big plastic tub if you don't have anything else and copper treat them. And leave the tank fishless for 6-8 weeks. Good luck and hope your beautiful fish pull through!

It was hard for me to break down and get a hospital tank but it has been well worth it. I know a lot of people are against treating with copper but I have had the best luck with it. I always use less copper in the replacement water when doing water changes that way I know copper levels won't get too high.

I have gone to the LFS and got meds. With the symptoms I first thought it was ich, because the tang had it first. Then it started getting worse so we (me and kee's) thought it could be flukes. If it's not flukes I have no idea whatit could be.

Raptor mentioned ammonia. Does anyone know if that would show up on normal parameter tests because I had the water tested and they were no parameters that were real off. The only thing that worries me about the ammonia is that I have a young cat and he likes to climb around the sump area. If he is peeing in the sump or something I'm going to pee on him.

However the fish on the sump (damsel, baby clown, and a wrasse) seem to be fine, as well as my corals. The corals in the display don't show any type of displeasure except when I first added the melafix they puckered up for an hour or so.

Normally when you take a sample to a lfs and they test for Calcium, mg,alk,ph and maybe nitrates. (Kee's may have tested but i would put little into if they did or didnt and test again)

Cloudy eyes, gill problems, slimecoat and skin problems are symptoms of ammonia poisoning.
In saltwater ammonia is more toxic to fish because of the ph of saltwater is higher. I dont know all the specifics but above the ph of 7 ammonia gets more toxic.
It dont take much ammonia to kill your fish, You would be amazed on how little you need to wipe your fish out in saltwater.
I would get a tropic marine, seachem or sailfert ammonia kit. They are pretty cheap and simple to use. I use a seachem ammonia alert on new tanks. It gives me peace of mind . It takes a couple days to adjust so it would not give a good reading till a day or 2 in of use.

Some fish handle it better damsels and clowns being some of them. Hense why people cycle tanks with them.
Good luck!! I hope i am wrong.
