I've asked for help before, and although I know I am running a bit of a risk and some will call me crazy, or worse, i want a new dang fish. I have not added any livestock to my tank in well over a year (that I can remember). Here is my story.

I have a 29 gallon, well stocked reef tank. I have a paired set of gold stripped maroon clowns, several snails, crabs, starfish, clams, corals. Most of the coral are LPS with a few sps and a couple shrooms and polyps. I have a 4" dsb and a hang-on refugium.

So, I need something that will be compatable, (sort-of) with the two maroons, is reef-safe, and will not dig into or eat the critters out of my dsb, and will not be too big for a 29 gallon well stocked tank.

Any suggestions!!!

man you could fit alot of fish in a 269gal tank.. :D

but in a 29gal tank on the other hand..

I have a maroon that LOVES my pgym angel..
and my pgmy has been great in my tank..
they swim next to one another all the time
and have never ever seen either nip at one another..

also the pgmy has never nipped any coralls or anything..
I though he might have but found out it was bein caused
by sweeper tenicals from my hammer

Not the prettiest of fish - but bicolor blennies & lmb's are LOADED with personality, and can hold their own with the Maroons. My bicolor loves to go into the return tube off of a scwd and waits for the current to switch and goes for rides!

Given that Maroons are pretty aggessive, you want something tough or fast enough to get out of their way...

Gobies are always good - esp. Clown Gobies (very cool little fish).

PJ or Bangai cardinals, the aforementioned firefish - or even a dottyback would be good. The cards might get roughed up now and then by the YST's from time to time, however...

You've got tons of choices - most any centropyge (watch for coral/clam nippers like lemonpeel and bicolors, however), most any goby, dartfish, jawfish, basslets/grammas, blennies, dottybacks / psuedochromis - etc...

Check out LiveAqauria's Nano-Fish Section for some more thought starters...

Just beware - the more docile of fish may have problems with a pair of YST's...

Thanks for all the help and comments. Feel free to keep them comming.

I like the idea of either, a banggai card, clown goby, or pygmy angle, with (I know) maybe a small goby/blenny.

However, don't cardnals need to be kept in pairs?

Don't angles such as the pygmy, flame, coralbeauty or others often nip at clams and lps corals? I have both.

Also, I need to be carefull with a blenny that only eats veggies as I don't have a lot of algae in my tank (thank goodness). And, I need to be careful with smaller gobies to make sure a) they don't dig in the dsb and mess up the system, and b) they are not know to be jumpers. In a tank with a pair of maroons, a fish already prone to jump, will.

Actually, I would like to get a sixline wrasse, buy I am afraid that it would eat all of the pods/worms in my sand bed, and I would like to get a tuxcedo urchin at some point in time and I heard sixlines will eat them.

I like the Orchid Dottybacks. They have an awesome color. When ever people come over many will comment on it. They are also one of the less agressive Dotties, but everyone knows that Dotties can take care of them selves when need to. One of these sound like they would fit your needs. They stay out of the sand and get no more then 3".

Make sure if you get one that it is an active eater at the store.

Thanks for the help guys. I went to Atlantis Fish Shop in Clawson and ended up buying a coral beauty and a canary blenny. I hope the four fish can all get along, and that the angle will not nip any corals or clams. So far so good, but they are still getting aclimated to their new home.

It was a debate between the coral beauty or the flame angle. I have heard more often that coral beauties did not nip at coral or clams than flames, and Dean at Atlantis agreed with that, plus the CB was eating very good and less expensive compared to the flame. I'll just have to make sure to feed him well.
