When I decided to start up a saltwater aquarium I first asked questions at some LFS. Then I found reefers.org and shortly after that I found michiganreefers. I read as much as I could find to read online. After all this reading it became apparent that LFS advice tends to be tainted a smidge with final sales in mind. So online became my only source of information. My favorite threads were the ones heavily laden with pictures of other people's setups from initial planning to finished result. I liked them so much I decided I would do the same thing myself once my own setup was complete. So.. here is my attempt at sharing my attempt at setting up a tank. I hope someone enjoys it as much as I have enjoyed others.
I had originally decided to get a corner 92 bowfront for our 1st floor family room. (not that we have a 2nd floor family room) I squirreled away extra cash whenever I had the opportunity and eventually had $1000 saved up - enough to get everything I need according to the LFS. (As those of you who have your own setups know, this was not even close) Plans to remodel our basement (utilizing a home equity loan) came along so we began that project. Very early on in the project I mentioned that an inwall tank would be pretty cool. The builders said that would not be a problem at all. We would just have to frame a section of wall across one end of the basement. That was the beginning of my setup.
I forgot to take pictures of the basement before work began. These are right after the initial tearout. Suffice it to say the basement had been previously done in Early Ugly. Here is the beginning of the "Fish Room".
(Yes, those are Christmas decorations behind there. We enlarged and organized storage elsewhere in the basement. I was allowed half of this new room for my 'fish stuff' LOL)
