Well, in the constant quest for the perfect setup we've come into a bit of a conundrum... caulerpa. I'll admit it, that is the driving force behind the purchase of a new fish. But I dont think that we want to get a Foxface Lo. We're looking into possibly something a bit difference so I'm looking for experiences with the following two fish:
Magnificent Foxface (Siganus magnifica) and Two Barred Rabbitfish (Siganus doliatus)
Now, I've looked at a few online vendors, and it seems that the price for these fish varies greatly from vendor to vendor. For example, Live Aquaria has the Magnificent Foxface for 50-90, but another site (I forget the name, but they tend to have some amazing fish, but high $$$) has it available for $150! While 50-90 is pricey for a fish, its a bit easier to cope with than $150. Not that this matters much as I'd likely be ordering locally through a LFS that can get me a quality fish at an acceptable price - though Ive never seen either of these in any LFS I've visited. Any idea what would be average for either of these?
On top of that, there's that whole "Reef Compatible: With Caution" warning. Has anyone had experiences with these specific fish in regards to nipping/eating corals? On top of that, how do they take to caulerpa?
And one thing that has me somewhat paranoid, but when they mention that these fish are venemous, and that they shouldnt be handled with bare hands, how toxic are we talking here? I assume its somethign like bee stings, where some people could take quite a few, and only have a mild reaction, vs someone who gets stung once and is hospitalized (or worse). I dont want my family to be afraid to reach their hands in for feeding/cleaning because we have a venemous fish in there... then again, during maintenence, Gary, the yellow tailed damsel has been the only one not to run and hide when the hands from above come near.
And finally - if you have either of these species of fish, could you post some photos of it? I've seen both have very different patterns (I dont tust LiveAquaria, and I search google images for both the common and scientific names to get an idea of what it looks like), but being able to see one here would be good too.
Thanks!
