I would take them apart and soak them in RO and let them dry out. I think they will be fine. There is no electronics in the dryside, just coils of wires. I will do it for you, if you want, or I will by them off you.

You could have shorted out the contoller if they were on when she put them in the water. I have collected many nonworking vortects over the years and got them working. I have six right now and use three in my tank right now.
