Well....I still have 5, I have not noticed any more, but they are a lot bigger than I was imagining.

2 of them are hiding in my frogspawn, the other 3 are hanging out in the floating mangrove "boat".... I don't know if I should pull them, or leave them be. The only thing I am worried about is them being eaten by my coral beauty...He has been poking his head around them a little too much.

I have another tank setup, but not a great setup for them....

Can I pull a small piece of rock out of my tank, put in a 5 gallon tank with freshly made saltwater, and do a gallon or two water change per day, and not lose them to a cycle in a smaller tank...I was kind of unprepared, I have been busy doing things for others, and forgot about myself and my lil' banggers...

Or, should I get a small breeding net and just hang over the top of the tank?
I am going to leave the two that are up in my frogspawn though...

Congrats! :victory:

If it was me, I'd try to isolate them if at all possible. I take it that there are other larger fish in with them?

Reasons: In an isolated tank, or area, you can be sure that they get the food that they need, not the older, faster fish.

They don't get eaten.

A smaller tank will be easier to do the waterchanges required with heavier feeding. You need to be sure they get enough food while they're growing quickly. ie; several times a day.

For 5 little Banggers a 10 gallon would be fine. I'd use water from the system that they're in now and do waterchanges with new SW that has been aerated and aged a bit. Adding a piece of LR will help keep nitrates down. Throw in a small hermit to clean things up.

If possible, get some live brine when thay're a bit bigger. Soak the BS in selcon for a few hours before feeding them to the babies.

HTH and good luck!:victory:

Good luck! They are very easy to raise. Like Tal said, separate them and feed them good quality foods (a variety) if you want them to flourish. Live freshly hatched brine, cyclops, and shaved mysis really get them growing quick. I raised batches of 30, 25, and 22 successfully a couple years ago without losing hardly any of them.

The count is up to SIX...I found one lil' guy in the sump... still looking though.

So far I have one in my sump, 2 are hiding in my frogspawn, and 3 in an in-tank breeder...the plastic one with slits on the sides and bottom.... If I can catch the two in the frogspawn, I will put those guys in the sump...where they will feast.

I tried thanking Scott70, and tried to reply to a message he had sent me, but no pm's will go through to him...I owe it all to him, and the great deal I got on mom & pop.... And to fishtal, for pointing me in the right direction.....

So...Thanks Scott, and Thanks Tal.

I am also setting up a "breeding system" so I will be ready next time.... I'll be raising live foods and all that fun stuff. for now, these guys seem to be eating frozen, and the loner in the sump has a thanksgiving feast of copepods down there.

You're very welcome. If you have any other questions I'm happy to help if I know the answers.:) If I don't, I'll help you find them. :)

If you're serious about breeding you might want to skim through my build thread here: http://www.masm.org/mForums/tm.aspx?m=18311
Skim? I read that thread about 10 times :) Thanks...
I am on MOFIB, and Reef Stuardship too. I just wasn't excited until now, lol.

LOL I'm glad someone was able to benefit from it, that was my intent when I started it.:victory: MOFIB is a great place, haven't heard of Reef Stuardship, I'll have to check that out when I get home.

Congrats, Brandon! -yes

I couldn't catch my male with this last batch, and was only able to get 2 babies (they fell out while i was trying to catch my #1 male).

they'll make excellent food for you cb, so you should def get them out. put them with some chaeto full of pods, and they'll have snacks available 24/7, in addition to what you feed them.

i keep mine in my sump, for now, until i get a separate tank set up for them. if you do this, remember that they fit perfectly into any cracks/vents in your return pump, skimmer, or anything else that will suck them in. i leave my light on 24 hours a day now, due to loosing babies overnight when the lights are out.

it is possible there may not have been that many babies if it was the first batch. they're still learning :) i actually saw my #2 male collecting eggs from the female (didn't realize that is what they were doing at the time), so between the female possibly not laying as many the first time, and the male not being exactly sure how to catch them all the first time, there may not have been that many. not to mention, he may have lost some due to having to hold them in his mouth for 21 days and not eating.

good luck, and keep us posted on future batches. I started a thread here and over at r2r about mine, but it got more responses over at r2r, so that's the one i keep updated. it's cool to look back and have a journal -yes

Is it time to ask for a breeding forum on MR again? Seems like more people are getting involved in breeding...
