Aeolid nudibranch

Hi,

This looks like one of the aeolid nudibranchs. Usually, they feed on a particular species cnidarian. If some corals are in decline in your tank, then you may be experiencing nudibranch coral predation................Jim Z.

uh oh....I didn't catch him, I was too interested in finding out what he was, it didn't even occur to me he was bad. I was cleaning out the back of my tank to get to a couple fish that wall hopped. I got them out, threw out some chaeto because it was growing like crazy, and after all the cleaning noticed him on the glass. I should of known it was a nudi...now that you guys mention it, looks just like one. I guess I'll just have to be on the lookout for either him or my zoas dying.

I was so hoping he was a "good" hitchhiker..shooot!

Steve

PS..at least I got my firefish and jawfish out of the back sump. How in the heck can a fish live back there without any light or food for a month and look perfectly fine?

LFS had a black occy disappear in their 180g. When they took down the tank to reseal it then fish was in the overflow. It had been living in the overflow for about a year or so, believe it or not.

Hahaha...it really did feel like 2 free fish. It felt like many years ago when I found a $50 bill shoved in an old Body Count cd jewel case. Don't ask me why I stuffed it in there but it was sure nice to find it.

As for getting the fish out, I had to grab a big salad bowl(I'm sure my wife appreciated that!!!), I pulled out all my chaeto and sucked most of the water out of the middle chamber to force the firefish into the return chamber. I pulled the pump out and when he saw that net coming he start jumping like a psycho fish. The jawfish just jumped right back into the tank when he saw me coming. Of course the firefish is back in the rear again...he can enjoy his stay cuz I'm not going after him again.

That link does look very similar. I have yet to see that little "nudi" again. Maybe he went back into the sump. I've got my eyes peeled for him.

I think you need to get some of what I have...thick black sponge filter media for the Biocube gap on top of the back wall.....it works like a charm. NOTHING gets past it into the back chambers.

The only thing is, I got my sponge media from Aquatic Discoveries. So, I'm not sure who carries it now. But if you stumble across any, I suggest you use that.
