After being told that they had a fish that I've been looking for, I called in advance on a Thursday and asked to hold said fish till Saturday morning. I told the young women on the phone I would be there Saturday morning for pickup. She took my name and phone number and I was left thinking all was good. When I showed up this morning at 11:00am when they open I was told the fish was sold the day before even though it was marked hold. After driving over an hour for a fish that was on hold and sold that was not the worst part.
When the man behind the counter called the owner he said NOT MY PROBLEM.
Sad Sad Sad!!!!!!
 
WOW . id like to say unbeliveable BUT they kinda did the same thing to me a couple of weeks ago . in fact i replied to one of the "new stock " threads they post and asked for a fish to be held and was told it could be done . when i called to verify stock on this fish , i too was told it was sold the day before or something along those lines.
 
I haven't been there in months. But I'm lookin at live aquaria divers den more often and aquarium shine just cause its closer to home.
 
That's an absolutely terrible response toward a customer. I can't believe they even didn't offer them a gift card or something worth while. But, there's always two sides to every story. Hopefully, the owner will tell us what actually happened. But, that's terrible business if that's what he said, "not my problem". I would have been like then you can kiss my -action
 
Yea I think the worst part is the owners response. That was over two hours of driving round trip just to be told not my problem.
Ever since Shannon and Jeff sold, there has been a whole different atmosphere there. I used to drive weekly from White Lake to there, and now won't waste the gas. Carl's a good guy, but may need to take a little more concern in that business.
 
Wow hard to belive carl would say that.But i dont really know.Who was behind the counter.Was it bill or some other employes.I know they have had there issues with there employes there.Sorry to hear that.But talk to bill and he will get you what you want and make sure it gets held for you.
 
And i have had my problems with there employees also.They had a octopuss on hole for me about three months back.Called on a friday and told them i would be down saturday morning.When i got there it had died and all the employee could say was oh well.And i had driven a hour to get there.Atleast he could of called and told me it died and would of saved me the trip.
 
All I can say is cash is king. I cannot count how many people told me over this board that they wanted something and then eventually backed out or no show. When ever they got something that I wanted, for me, I was there within an hour grant it that I am not as far as some. But at the end of the day until you hand over the cash or pay up front, cash at hand rules. Keep in mind what they do is a cut throat business.

On the other side I do agree that the quality has been lacking maybe because of the high turnaround rate. I purchased a fish that I wanted for over a year when I picked it up it was already bagged and when I got it home it was tore up from the floor up. The fish didnt make it 3 weeks. Expressed my concers early on and an employee told me to keep him posted. When I did I never received a response. Bought two other fish a week later and those both checked out. Not sure why but the success rate recently have been very low to nil.

Advice, improve quality and respond.
 
I would say this, I would not expect any store to hold a live animal for me. It dies and they are out. It just doesn't make sense. If I order something I bust it up there right away. To much risk in holding things for people who may or may not show up. If I ask a store to hold something or they call me and tell me something I want is in I give them a credit card number and an exact time I'll be there.

Plus, I have witnessed in another LFS a customer wipe off the sold sign then asking the guy working there how much it is and buying it. I told the employee and the transaction was stopped but that guy was pissed at me. Secondly, I would call before making a trip. Things do die. Unfortunately the outcome of these threads is stores not taking orders. That's not good for any of us. So....
 
i dont know whos responding to what but heres how this goes . i aked could the fish be held until i could pick it up by friday , the answer was yes . I DIDNT MAKE HIM SAY YES . he could have said something silly like "cash is king" and well i dont think any of you would show to a place that , so he didnt. BUT what he could have said is im sorry but our store works off a cash and carry policy but you could call the day you wanted to come and verify availablity of the item you wish to purchase . and also i didnt EXPECT him to hold the fish until after he said he could .

Of course your right, and hopefully a learning lesson to the staff person who caused it all. There are plenty of choices out there so you will be fine, for the rest of us well I hope they continue looking for items we want and can't find anywhere else. I sure for everyone of these stories there are 10 that worked out.

It is silly not to think that if you really wanted it id imagine you would have been there Tuesday night. In the silly end you are probably better off as there might have been a low probability of survival anyways.

We can spend a few hours talking about silly stuff in the is hobby like telling a very busy pet shop via bulletin board that you want something on Tuesday and waiting until Friday to pick up and expecting that it is going to be there. It is silly not to think that if you really wanted it id imagine you would have been there Tuesday night. In the silly end you are probably better off as there might have been a low probability of survival anyways.
First it was not a tuesday it was a Thursday a hold for one day. Second I had talked to the girl on the phone (not some bulletin board) and she said the fish was there over a week so the chance of it dieing in one day is not an issue. Third if cash is king I would have paid for it over the phone but not offered. Fourth it was over an hour drive one way hence the phone call and asking them to hold the fish.
She took my name and number so as far as im conserned they could have called and said it sold. But over all my biggest problem is the responce i got
"NOT MY PROBLEM"
