ok here is how I would word it

Pif (Pay it Forward) is about meeting new people, sharing Corals, and having fun. With everything please take into account you are interacting with people who deserve to be treated fairly and as adults, if you have any problems please try to settle it between yourselves or speak with a mod. The whole point of a Pif is to have fun, and rules are never fun, though they can help things move smoothly. With that being said I've compiled some guidelines to follow when starting or participating in a PIF.

- When creating a Pif remember to start it with 2 frags. This ensures that the Pif will continue on in case one or the other happens to perish.
- When starting a Pif please give your tank parameters, lighting, flow, and placement of the mother colony in your tank, pictures of the mother colony and frags would also help people know what they are getting and what their frags should look like when healthy.
-When staring a Pif please give directions as a “how to” frag the coral you will be donating. This will help some people that are unsure of how to frag certain corals.
- Before joining any Pif make sure that you have basic knowledge of this coral. The starter of the Pif will list what type of flow they have the coral in and what type of lighting.
- Mods or the starter of a Pif might suggest you pass your turn for a later date if with speaking to them it is believed your tank might not be ready for the coral.
- It is suggested to donate two frags of these to other people on the list. You may donate more than two, but two frags should be the minimum. This makes the PIFs go much faster and it also helps to spread the Corals much faster.
- Once you donate two Corals, if you choose to, it will not be frowned upon if you trade or sell the Corals or colony.
- If someone has donated two Corals already of the Pif and they don't want to donate anymore, please do not harass them.
- If your coral does not survive, please let the other Pif members know. It helps us keep track of the frags.
- If you want to be added to a list, copy and paste the list in a new post with your name added to the bottom.
- If you sell your entire setup or are getting out of the hobby, it would be nice if you passed your Pif coral to the next person in line.
- Go down the list, starting from top to bottom, this ensures that everyone gets a fair chance at receiving their coral. It may seem to be non-logical to ask someone that is 100 miles away; however they may be stopping in your area sometime soon and might want to pick up the coral then.
- When receiving a Pif coral be sure to inspect it very closely for any types of unwanted pests and/or Algae.
- When giving a coral to someone, please inform them of any pests you might have in your tank, red bugs, flat worms, nudibranches, annoyance Algae, etc..
- For Zoanthid Palithoa frags it is suggested to give frags of three to four polyps, SPS at one inch, Mushrooms nickel sized after fragging, any others not covered please use your best judgment, most “small” frags are one by one inch in size.
- Please keep in mind, Corals might grow fast in one tank and slow in another, if someone has not passed on a frag do not harass them, it could be things are just growing slower than average in their tank.
- Most importantly HAVE FUN !!!!!!!!!!!!

as for #6 it is in there in the middle

for #1 that could be a touchy one but in ways it may be required

and this is how I would word it

-Please do not join a PIF list if you have no intentions of Paying It Forward

Be Uti Full!!!

I think that's good.

Let's bump #6 up or down in the list to make it more visible, since I hate seeing people say "Add me"

I agree how bout this version

I have a comment on the deleting a finished PIF, how is one ever truely finished? wouldnt' the last people on the list have gotten it without passing it on? wouldn't it be best to leave it up, maybe some new person comes along and would like a frag and could see the list was finishe x months ago, could post to bring it back, and also PM the last person on the list, jus tto let them know there is new interest in the PIF when the time comes that a frag may be available...

I've been on this site almost a year, but have yet to join in a PIF, I may look thru some that you would have closed, askign to join it,, I also may have some to add.

You make some good points, Swampjeep I was just trying to avoid harassing people too much, but I guess a little harrassment is actaully needed... or deserved... hehe

well part of the thing with removing old PIF thread that havn't been used in a while is removing DEAD threads in other words threads that got paid forward but the frags died or the people that recieved dropped off the planet :( this happens and when it dose sometimes it is better just to close a thread instead of letting the list keep getting longer

To be honest- I have not read thru all of the posts here about the PIF guidlines- but I have a suggestion.
Wouldn't it make more sense to only have people sign up WHEN the coral is available. That way you are not waiting on reefers that have dropped off the face of the planet- and the person getting the frag should know their immediate travel plans to make arrangements.
So when a frag is ready to be passed on- the person with the frag can post what it is- and what the requirements are- no shipping, current location- but also travels to "such n such" area to visit family. They can request responses ONLY from those in the designated area of possible delivery or meet up OR the responder must be WILLING and able to drive to get it- if location conditions are not met.
Frags will still work their way across the state- and it is more methodical this way.

We tried to cover that with this one.

one problem with this is without the list of people waiting for frags these threads a lot of times get forgotten I had signed up for one on coco pally and had forgotten all about it till someone pmed me saying they had a frag I actually had to ask what they were talking about since I could not remember so if it weren't for the list I would have completely missed out on that one I have since paid it forward to a few people

I agree I usually give a week unless I know it is someone that only comes on once in a great while

that would have to be left up to the person donating the frags as some times they just want them out of their tank so they can go a different rout with their tank or cause they are trying to thin it out and need the space for something else

I can understand that reason

How long do you wait for the next person in line to reply? Some people are not on MR or even their computer every day especially in the summer.
I think this is a personal choice, some people might wait a few days, others might wait a week before calling it quits with a person before going on to the next. Personally I give 2-3 days, if nothing else I'll message the next person on the list. Usually I don't notice I can frag till I can make 2-3 frags, so I'm already messaging several people to start anyways, so it's a win win for me, though people might have to wait a few weeks longer to hear from me. But the frags are given out in the end and I assume everyone's happy with it all.

I reworded the #1, and added #6 in there where it fit best....

Anything else that is critical to add before I talk to Vito again about it?

Keep in mind it's not something that needs to keep every guidline like how long to wait before moving on to the next person in the list or what kind of baggy you should give the person when picking it up, etc...

- Please leave a trader rating with the people you come into contact with during the PIF's.

no offense dan but trader ratings don't work in these threads if we were going to do something like that would need our own rating system

also you put the guide about adding to the list 2 times

personally I like my version I posted at the top of this page better just seems more friendly since that is part of what this is all about

also separating the guidelines with a blank line between each one makes it easier to read

it's all formatting... in the final version be it in a forum post or an html doco things will be different than posted here.
A new rating system would be ideal, but gotta think of what the reality of everything is. The odds of us getting our own may or may not come to fruitiion, so in efforts of at least having some kind of feedback tieing it into the rating system would be great. This isn't the final build that's going to be posted, just a list of suggestions that when "complete" will be passed on to the higher powers for review. They ultimatly will be in charge of what gets or doesn't get posted.
