Bummer on the setosa Andrew. Let me know if you need another frag. I still have a couple around.

You must have decided to keep the tank? Saw that you are looking for blue sponge again so I assume you are going to be keeping it.

Ya, I probably keep my water a bit dirty for sps, birdsnest and digi's are the only sps that grow fast and great for me. I'll get another frag if this guy doesn't recover. As for the tank, I decided to keep it, and started searching for the blue sponge. But, later today I got a message saying the guy still wants it, so I'm not sure. If he doesn't take it, I'll take the post down and keep it. I'm going to post my new build thread tonight, got my 10 gallon up and cycling.

No matter what, I'm not quitting this hobby for good :)

Well, I am very happy to be able to share these recent pics of one of my fairy wrasses. About a month ago, while I was feeding (the only time the mesh tops are removed from the tank other than cleaning), he jumped out. I heard him hit the light fixture and could not find him. Got a flashlight and looked behind the tank, and there he was on the floor in the middle of the back of the tank.

It had only been about 60 seconds so I wasn't overly worried if I could get him back in the tank, the only problem was how to get him. He was literally dead center of my 6 foot long tank, and there is only 2 inches between the wall and my stand. I obviously couldn't reach him.

The only thing I coud figure out to do was to use a yard stick to drag him out so that I could finally reach him and get him back in. Even this was not the easiest task in the world, and not the nicest thing to do to this beautiful fish. But with no other options that is what I did.

Housed him in the acclimation box so that I could monitor him for a few days, and he was looking pretty rough. But I could tell that the acclimation box was adding stress as well, so I released him and hoped for the best. He was very shy at first, hardly saw him for a couple of days. But then we would see him at least at feeding time every night and slowly he became more and more bold again. Even the little bit of fin damage he suffered in the ordeal has healed up nicely.

So here he is, Glad to still have him with us.

Thanks for sharing my journey with me.

Try putting the setosa in the shade for a couple weeks, mine wasn't looking good, shaded it and put it back, been taking off ever since.
Was that directed at me? I don't have a picture of a setosa on this page. The light purple/brown acro on this page is a smooth skinned, slender branched no named acro that I picked up a while ago. Finally starting to see some better color out of it (not that you can tell from my poor pictures) so I thought I would share.

My setosa is doing great. I had a pic of it up a couple of pages back, but here it is again.

Color is better than what the picture shows. I really stink with a camera. Thanks for the thoughts though I am always open to how to make my tank better.:)

I apologize too, I had forgotten that Andrew had commented on his setosa not doing well on the last page.

It would make it easier if you quoted the post that you are commenting on. Really easy to do, just click on the quote button in the post, and it will take you to a screen where you can type in your reply and edit the portion they have posted if you are only commenting on part of it. Helps to keep all the comments straight.

Sorry again.

I know how to, didn't bother since this is your thread and thought I was talking to you.

Thought I would update my experience with Microbe Lift Special Blend so far. I dosed the first round last Saturday. The cyano is still growing, but I didn't expect it to clear up overnight. From my research on the product it can take up to 5 weeks to see results with it. Some have actually reported that the cyano seemed to get worse initially before it got better. It has not seemed to get any worse from what it has been so that is good.

The only other thing that I have noticed is that my glass is staying a whole lot cleaner this week than normal. Hopefully that is a good sign.

Secon dose goes in tomorrow after my weekly water change. I will try to update at least once a week as I see any change (or lack of). Thanks for following along.

I am leery about adding chemicals to the tank as well. The Microbe Lift Special Blend is a bacterial additive so it will be beneficial to the tank in other ways besides just (hopefully) ridding the tank of cyano.

I was using MicroBacter 7 and had read a number of people that were having a problem with cyano when dosing MB7 and a carbon source that had good luck when switchng to MLSB. Overall, just read a lot of good things about the product and decided to give it a try.

If it doesn't work, I may use some chemiclean. It would be a faster fix, but as we all know, nothing good happens fast in a reef tank. Besides that, while some have been able to dose chemiclean once and never again, I have read a number of reports of the cyano coming back after a couple of months using chemiclean.

Well time for a two week update on the Special Blend. Growth on the glass has been nonexistent. I do still have cyano, but it seems to be lifting off the rocks during the week. I have been extremely busy at work this past week, so I didn't have time to syphon any out. Did take the time to turkey baste it all off the rocks during tank maintenance yesterday, and ran a filter sock for a day to catch as much as possible, but still not as good as daily removal.

Overall, I think I am seeing less cyano develop during the week, and it is not holding on as well as previous. Hopeful to see less and less develop in the coming weeks, and hopefully will have some time to manually remove on a more regular basis.
