My bf and I are looking to buy a bigger tank for our dear fish. We have successfully kept a 6 gallon tank going for 7 months now. We are looking at the Biocube Coralife Tank but can't find many reviews. Do any of you have experience with this one? We realize the older version of this tank didn't do so well after a while. Also, if not this tank, would anybody have any suggestions on another tank in the 30 gallon range. We have a hammer coral, clown fish, cleaner shrimp, many hermit crabs, some snails, and an arrow crab. So we don't have much yet, but we love what we have and we want to give them a better home!

I had a 29 Gallon Biocube until recently when I upgraded. It is essentially a decent system but you are limited to soft coral, LPS and amybe Monti Cap and Birdsnest due to the stock lighting. If you want to do other SPS, you will need a lighting upgrade and due to the enclosed hood, heat will be an issue if you use anything other than LEDs.

Other suggestions:

Remove the bioballs, add a small skimmer (Tunze or Aquatic life will fit in chamber 2), add a media basket to chamber 2, remove the false floor in chamber 1. All these things will help remove detritus traps and keep your nitrates down.

If you upgrade the stock pump to an MJ1200 and/or add a small powerhead such as the Korallia Nano 425 you will improve flow a lot. Also, the goofy rotating powerhead attachment (forgotten the name) actually does randomise the flow a bit but you have to fit the adapter that is a really tight fit, or it will fall off all the time.

There is a lot of info on nano-reef.com forums about successful tanks and the mods people have done. There is also a lot of info on which fish and coral work well.

+1 on the false bottom. We dropped it on my girlfriends, and took out the bio balls basket and made a fuge. Also upgraded the lighting to StevesLEDS. Definitely needs a larger return pump. She has a Koralia 750, 425 nano and the rotating return head.
